I’ve used ChatGPT to create all the images I’ve used so far, but with various degrees of prompting. Last week I told it pretty much exactly what to make - eg “create an image of a dog staring intently at something not pictured”. This week I was less prescriptive. “Create a surreal image to serve as a writing prompt”. I generated about 10 of those and picked the two I liked most.

Not sure why people aren't able to follow my verse, I thought it was a pretty straight forward take, but it was it is. Props to Activate on the win, though I think I might have suffered here for posting second after a fairly lengthy piece. I don't know if people had the attention span to make it through my verse after.

No complaints about the outcome, it's mostly just fun to be writing, but I also think the 32 line limit is important to keep voters engaged with shorter, digestible verses.

Edit: I guess it's hard to follow if you haven't seen the topic picture, but I assume thats a given for a topical battle, so I'm still at a loss.

Idk bro, I feel you on the line length, legit gripe. If it results in a DQ, I’m cool with that, but I also feel like it’s kind of a wash since I posted 2 to 3 days before the deadline. The only thing I did was finish where I left off because you requested the extension. But I get your point, the rules are the rules.

In any case, good stuff Fraze. I personally enjoyed your verse. That said, if you or the mods feel like the line limit issue was a grossly unfair advantage, I’ll take the L out of compliance and sportsmanship. No big deal or hard feelings on my part. I’m not suggesting you’re trippin either, bro. I’m just throwing that out there. It’s all love.

No worries man. I didn't even want to bring it up, b/c I don't think it's worth a DQ. You did post early and if I had more time to write I could have matched. You're also doing kind of a mid-length bar style that's hard to get an exact line count on. My point is more on the what I assumed the goal of these shorter format topicals was.

This is something that is always a problem with topicals b/c long verses are harder to get votes on. NWL is usually closer to a 64 line limit so I assumed it was intentional to keep the tourney moving. Just something to keep in mind next round, I'll be wishing you luck.

I don't have any complaints about the votes btw. Its a close battle either way, I can't complain about people's preferences. I just was hoping for better feedback. I can't really connect much of what was written to the verse I wrote.

Word, bro, that’s a solid response. You made a valid point about the length slowing down the speed of the votes, and I completely agree. I figured it might be an issue based on historical data. I usually try to stick to the line limit, but every now and then, I end up doing the opposite. I’ve actually got a long-form breakdown on my computer I was going to PM you, along with a response to the question you posed in the Discussion Forum.

As for your verse, it legit felt like watching an anime or reading a comic book. High energy, action-packed, and full of epic prose and imagery. In my head, it reads super colorful, like this mythological, medieval, or overpowered clash of opponents in a coliseum-style tournament set in some bizarre alternate reality or timeline. I could be way off, but that’s my interpretation of your content.

All in all, I thought it was a really fun and entertaining read.

Parley Pete was observing the match from the magic carpet in the pic. He was using the event to calibrate his magic compass so he could make flawless picks when gambling in the arena. He's trying to make bread without the loan sharks coming after him.

Gambling addiction is a serious problem, even in other dimensions.

I can concede my match so the next round can start.

PS. I didn't dwell too much on the battle scene because it's supposed to be about the topic pic where the compass was the foreground focal element. I wanted my piece to have the same dynamic as the pic, where while there is all this action going on you're wondering what's up with the compass the whole time (or at least I was). I wanted to explain why the compass was the main character of the pic by also having it be the focal element of my story.

That's my surprise twist at the end. It was never about the the battles or the conflict. It was all just a vehicle for Parley Pete who wanted to conquer the arena in a different way.

I also get it if people couldn't follow all those threads, its hard to fit everything in 32 bars.

I was wondering what your thoughts are on moving the due date to Monday. It’s going to be a busy week for me and I won’t be able to even think about writing until Saturday or Sunday. I don’t to turn in a piss poor effort or no show due to scheduling restraints. LMK.

I'm on board with it - things getting busy with holidays and stuff, that gives us a weekend at least.

Yeah that’s okay with me. I was debating whether to make Monday anyway actually. I just went with Friday because in the past people have said they don’t want to write on the weekend, and also that gave us a little more time to hopefully get it wrapped up before Christmas. But that’s fine - it’ll probably finish sometime between Christmas and new year. @Saint and @John Dillinger you guys can have until Monday too.

I’ve started two stories so far, got halfway through each, and ended up scrapping both. Now I’m onto my third attempt and hoping this one sticks. I have a couple hours to spare, so we’ll see how it goes. But yeah... it’s shaping up, just not sure what it's shaping into, yet.
