Dave Adore Tees is fine phonetically, but issue number 1 is that it's a battle and the words you choose to use are important. You can't say "Adore" or "Adorable" in a battle and come off aggressive or insulting. The best thing you can do is try to spin it so that it's a comedic angle rather than an aggressive one, but that didn't happen.
Issue 2 is the set-up didn't really feel like an organic transition to the bar. "This guy dresses like a bum, I know he adores t-shirts" has conflicting implications and is just an overall weird sentence to say Issue number 3 is the context didn't fit the syntax. The full set-up was "I know Dave Adore Tees" which syntactically should have said "I know Dave Adores Tees". There's an appropriate context for saying Adore instead of Adores, it's a present-tense verb. You'd have to format your sentence to say something like "I went into hot topic to watch Dave Adore Tees" this is just the standard boilerplate autism, let me know if you need the weapons-grade autistic breakdown.
