Besides the fact that Dora IS a girl there's nothing inherently "girly" about that franchise - it's rescue missions and animals and treasure hunts and learning spanish.

It's how the kid plays with the toy, not the toy itself. Case in point: would you rather your son played with a Dora doll as described above, or with a GI Joe but doing tea parties and shit?
