Not necessarily IMO, because perception also effects the mainstream paradigm of what we perceive as real and not real or what the society as a whole dictates as real or not real for you.

now what would you say this was if you saw it with your own eyes? This is your own visual perception of what you're seeing and you will describe it as whatever comes to you and what caused this. It's your opinion that you're universally allowed to have.

Now you have the news lady basically telling you what it is and basically crushing your own perception of what you visibly witnessed with your own eyes by someone who did not see it with there own eyes.

Given the mindset of most of the viewers, they'll chalk it up to what the news lady said. Case closed, nothing to see here, keep it moving. There in lies the issue of what you said. Many who viewed this who are more inclined to question or have an independent train of though will stick to there gut that the cause given by the news lady is not the cause behind what they themselves saw..that's the paranormal, alternative viewpoint that still needs explanation. I'll also so that's it's more of a less popular opinion being it is not shared by the mainstream.

On the other hand those that believe the news lady's cause behind the sky phenomenon in that video...it's more of a feasible explanation that thwarts any further thought or questioning into the matter....hence the norm.
