for a full opening, like in the knee, just put the pants on, and use something easily washable like pencil to do a line over the knees, cut w/ razor, pull out the excess stringy bits.

for the more.. opaque type openings like in the pics.. put the razor to the jeans and instead of slicing. kinda like rub it wideways if you get me. that exposes the white stringy bits underneath but doesn't cut them away.
