Also, the speed bag is a rhythmic exercise used to not measure the speed of which you hit it, or the power, but it is a stamina exercise that is supposed to imitate having your hands up in a hand to hand bout. That's why thebag is hit for more than 30 minutes because that's usually how long these bouts last. It works the shoulders and the muscles that help you keep your defensive posture up, the hitting/punching is so that your muscles get tired, so that you can assuredly keep your hands up defensively.
