Those Aliens tho....
Gravity is theoretical. Magnetism is theoretical. Electricity is theoretical. Whats your point?

We can test all of these theories, that's the difference. We can't test theories of black holes because we aren't near one, nor would we be able to if we were (theoretically lol). We can observe how they interact with the surrounding environment, but we cannot run any tests like we can with gravity, electricity, etc.

@Amen singling out my post out of the 10 here, calling me nerdboy. FOH.

Can't directly examine any subatomic particles in studying quantum physics. It doesn't make the results any less valid. Theoretical means relating to the principles at play as opposed to studying their applications. Literally every scientific/chemical/physical/astronomical discovery is based on how things interact. That's called evidence. We can directly test for gravity. We still can't explain why it exists and it's literally everywhere. We're swimming in evidence and it's less explained than something so far away that humans couldnt reach it in 50 generations. Most people accept Newton's gravitational model and it's literally proven wrong, but that's not strange

Most people are just afraid of foreign ideas because they can't pretend to understand them at the same depth as something right at their fingertips

agreed up until this point; we're pretty damn good at pretending to understand things.

I think the word 'theory' has a different connotation to non-science folk than it does to science folk.

In science terms, a theory has already gone through a lot of tested variables - and worked - before it's even been classified as a theory.
