i dunno, garageband has like...EVERYTHING you need to produce quality shit. it's as easy as youtubing tips and shit.
erica badu recorded an album or two using garageband, i found out recently. shit's legit. and it's got master track options. you can literally record, mix, and master in a matter of minutes. it's a no-brainer for me, garageband all the way. it's real easy and in-your-face. took me a while to realize i could master my shit own it, but once i did...my sound quality went to the next plateau. p.s. i'm writing this on my restored macbook pro. genre over.

Audacity is a bare bones basic free program. You'd think that would make it good for beginers but tbh it's really clunky. Doing something as simple as aligning your recording can be a pain in the ass. any other program you just hover your cursor over it left click n drag. Audacity has some overly complicated and contrived bullshit of a method for something that should be as easy as 123. So with shit like that and it's lack of functions of something like Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition I'd leave it well alone and pick 1 of the other 2 if you're new to home recording.
If you're looking for something more advanced and have the cpu and space to run it then I would go with something like Cuebase, Pro Tools, Reason Record, or Ableton. If you're on a Mac go with Garage Band. |

ProTools is the industry standard for pro audio recording. It's almost worth choosing it for that reason alone. If you're less interested in recording and more into dj-ing and making EDM and fucking with samples, Ableton is honestly leeeaaaaaaaagues beyond anything else out there. Plus both these DAWs just saw a recent upgrade, with some seriously excellent new features.
