Our Sandy Shore
At a standstill, examining every grain of sand between my toes The waves of the sea scrape the evening sunset borrowing paints of peach, lavender and gold If only I could conjure ghosts I wouldn’t be standing all alone Remembrance tattooed me with a phantom of your hand inside my own I simultaneously clutch at nothingness as tears empty from my eyes My lonely stare following the shoreline to where it blends into the sky.. Every evening I watch the sun hold its nose and dive beneath the whitecaps Until the time that it gasps its first morning breath using the clouds as footholes to climb back I wish your voice would ride in on the waves to the coast and tell me how you've grown Pressing every seashell i can find to my ear but they seldom sound like home I could probably stand here for an eternity revisiting distant images When i close my eyes i see the same scarlett the Carolina sun kissed your skin with Still reserving your seat where we would watch the ships set sail so calmly The memories are intact but they're all tinted blue, drenched in melancholy I still see the footprints of our adolescence patterned 'cross this beach I see me ask that question from my knee, your reaction backlit by the sea Two newborn tears reach the surface, hit my cheeks and start to run To the fights we had, to all the words i should have let linger on my tongue As per my daily routine, the last memory i have to recollect Is our regular nightly commute down I-22, turned into that devastating wreck The sharp droplets of glass that cascaded down my hair and face Signals the beginning of the end of the horn blaring serenade ….You stepped out of the passenger seat with a only few scratches n scuffs They peeled me off of blood soaked fabric, my door where the truck made impact had been crushed They said the last second maneuver i made saved your life I would do it again a million times, twice over... Purgatory is our sandy shore… I'm watching the forever changing tide come and go, depicting our highs and lows Spectating the spectres of yesterday, as a monotonous slideshow So my love, don't worry about me, as I'm pulled beneath these currents You'll rest easier knowing the ocean grew hands to hold me when you couldn't.. |

I'm pretty sure you went over the line limit again you bastard lol. That aside (stop that), this was another beautiful verse. And I mean like beautiful. Some of these lines were nothing short of masterful and it's a piece that only gets better with a second read through..
(Which I did right away). I loved the afterlife/purgatory angle of this... sort of echo'd my own piece this week... just on the other side of the spectrum. Great minds, as they say... This drop actually exceeded your 1st week's verse and is your best yet... I look forward to reading your stuff every week and this solidifies you as a top threat in the GWL. Well done, sir. Sidenote: I'm probably saying goodbye to the league if they hand me the DQ loss against Bayou. I wish you the best going forward my man. I'm cheering for ya.
