Default book recommendations.

stuff thats actually enjoyable to read plz. this isn't a thread for you to try and stunt with your nerdness and ability to enjoy difficult to read but highly acclaimed books. i'm looking for entertainment, pure and simple.

i stay in fantasy shit when im reading but i'm open to anything i guess.

i just finished the dunk and egg novellas by george RR martin. basically following ser duncan the tall (brienne's ancestor, think its her grandfather or great grandfather, in the novellas he isn't knocking anyone up yet, but martin confirmed it at some thing), and egg aka aegon targaryan, think he's maester aemon's brother. the old dude at the wall who dies with sam and gilly.

they were cool tho i enjoyed them for what they were, and it has appearances by others, like brynden rivers aka blood raven (the dude who bran meets north of the wall, in the tree or whatever the 3 eyed crow/raven whatever)

but yea, with that and the world of ice and fire i'm pretty sure i've read everything set in that world.

i am still waiting on the kingkiller chronicles final book. name of the wind and wise mans fear were ill. i copped a book that has short stories from all the top authors basically as well, ROGUES, and that had a short story with BAST from those books and that was cool. i wasted my money buying the slow regard of silent things. its about auri from those books, but written in her mind, which she destroyed at the university trying to figure out naming. so basically its written horrible and is for nerds. so i've read pretty much everything from that world

SO THAT SAID.

i need something dope, easy to digest. it can be some epic shit, or just some normal novels i dunno. just stuff that will keep me reading.

thinking of looking into joe abercrombie, but i think i tried reading one of his books before and not getting into it.

so word recommend some shit

I'm reading a book by Jodi Picoult called Lone Wolf about a man who lives with and raises Wolves but then gets involved in an accident which puts him in a coma.

It's very enjoyable so far.

The book I read before that was 'Merry Christmas, Alex Cross' by James Patterson which was also enjoyable and a very fast read. Took less than a day, I like that kind of book.

But my favourite book of all time is L.A Requiem, by Robert Crais, which is INCREDIBLE.

Quote:
The day starts like any other in L.A. The sun burns hot as the Santa Ana winds blow ash from mountain fires to coat the glittering city. But for private investigator Joe Pike, the city will never be the same again. His ex-lover, Karen Garcia, is dead, brutally murdered with a gun shot to the head.

Now Karen's powerful father calls on Pike (a former cop) and his partner, Elvis Cole, to keep an eye on the LAPD as they search for his daughter's killer--because in the luminous City of Angels, everyone has secrets, and even the mighty blue have something to hide. But what starts as a little procedural hand-holding turns into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. For a dark web of conspiracy threatens to destroy Pike and Cole's twelve-year friendship--if not their lives. And L.A. just might be singing their dirge.
The secondary character Joe Pike is my favourite literary character of all time. He oozes coolness.

I highly recommend it.

Omg please go get the first law triology by Joe abercrombie. He's the best fantast writer out right now. Also if u haven't read Brent week's the night Angel trilogy they're dope too. Also check out the storm light archive by Brandon Sanderson. But the #2 all time best fantasy, and some say its better than game of thrones, is Steven Ericksons the malazan book of the fallen. But if ur looking for a light read these are not the books u, they r the definition of epic and fuckn awesome.

To me the best is Joe abercrombie. U gotta start with the first book tho "the blade itself" or you won't get the full enjoyment. If u don't like Joe abercrombie or stephen Erickson quit reading and shoot urself cause ur a stupid fuckn faggit.

but word i'll end up checking those next probably.

Yea ur if u start Steven Erickson it committing the nxt cpl yrs of ur life to him. There r 9 books n almost all of em r 1000+ pgs lol. Sooo worth it tho.

Abercrombies lighter, but still super dope.

The name of the wind sucked. So did wise mans fear. They were big letdowns for me. But also so was the assassins apprentice by robin hobb.

All Involved by Ryan Gattis - fictional book set during LA riots, mostly following different gang members using the riots as a way to get revenge hits and shit. super dope.

I, Lucifer by Glen Duncan - story about Satan getting another chance to get back into heaven by living life as a human, pretty hilarious.

War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy - story about war. and then there's peace I guess? idk never read it.

'The Blade Itself' or whatever was pretty dope, The Ninefingers guy is a beast...
I haven't read any Ice and Fire started watching the show and figured the experience
would probably change my enjoyment of the books.
...
I fuck with the classics though, heres some should reads:
Clockwork Orange, (the language is dope and half the fun of the book)
The Crysalids (John Wyndam who wrote The Day of the Trifids, also dope)
The Alchemist (My favorite book of all time)
Papillion (awesome french jail story, I fucking love jail stories:
others you should read are,
The Damage Done (Australian goes to jail in Thailand)
Marching Powder (the crazy Columbian jail system)
and Shantaram (this book was dope about jail in India etc...)
....
Fuck I could crap on suggesting for hours.

If you want an entertaining read with lots of dark humor while keeping a great heartfelt storyline you should definitely check out A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irwing. This shit will keep you reading.

i read a shitload of feist back in the day. probably like 20 books or some shit. my only beef is its the same thing over and over.

like the magician trilogy just repeated with new characters, pug and tomas still around tho, but main characters different and at the end pug and or tomas would kill the new threat, went from the tsurani, to serpent men, to demons, to void creatures, etc

so i kind of stopped. but i dug them for awhile. read basically every trilogy

I only ever read the first trilogy and then a book about Jimmy the Hand.
I kinda thought it would go like that, really only the first book is dope.

Anything by Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty is a good place to start). McCarthy is great. No Country for Old Men and The Road are smooth, easy reads. The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway is the GOAT though. Slaughterhouse Five by Vonnegut is the last thing I read and it was pretty awesome, too. But I don't read fantasy type of shit so I've got no recommendations for that.

lol @ war and peace. I've never read it either.

I was going to say 'The True Believer' but idk what you classify as 'nerdy'
But its a short book, opens the eyes a bit more, deals with 'movements'

Nah its not for the bowels

1984 is dope for a trip down memory lane though....read...it.....do....it
