from what i understand its only the same for the first few episodes. which of course you guys would hate

i seen the american office first. then i tried watching the UK office, and i couldnt. not because it "sucked" but because the dialogue was the same, and i already saw the picture painted one way, so no matter what its not gonna live up to the first one you see

i think the shameless american version deviates from the main storyline of the british one, i never watched the british one, but im pretty sure i read that

i'm also pretty sure this topic has been brought up on here before and one of you UK dudes who was blindly hating, basically bit an article and used it to form your opinion lmao

but yea, im sure the british version is good too. but if you say the american version is shitty, you just obviously havent watched it. emmy rossum/fiona is a fucking BEAST. she steals the whole show easy. not just because she is a beautiful goddess but her acting is on point

its a very good show.
HBO buying the rights is a given otherwise there would be no show to begin with . But they still lazily bit the original word for word. Just because you buy the rights to a show doesn't mean you have to take from the original to such a mind numbing extent. hence why, as you say, they later went on to deviate from the British original.

See the problem with that is. Your American version doesn't have it's own identity. Because it was written, cast and directed with Brits in mind, a very specific type of culture and way of life you guy's simply don't have. So all you've got in the end is a bunch of American actors acting out scenario's and dialogue they have no business acting out making it a very surreal and out of place viewing experience.

That would be like us buying the rights to The Wire then having an all white cast of upperclass selling crack in a bunch of tower blocks using the same slang and scenario's as the American version. Thats a bit of an extreme example but thats what it's like being a brit watching the US version, it just doesn't fit. regardless of how good the actors are, it just doesn't belong.

That's why I said it was a pretty extreme example, just to give you an example of how it comes across as out of place from this side. It just doesn't fit. Even with the Americanisms (is that a word? lol) in the delivery. The show still used the same script. I knew exactly what was coming and what was going to be said ages before it was said.
