Can you battle without lying?

One of my biggest problems with battling these days is the disappearance of the direct diss. Every time anyone tries it, they get called "statementish." So instead we get tons of lies.

I don't mean false personals. I'm talking about things like: calling a straight man "faggot"; talking about a single guy's girlfriend; calling someone's mom or girlfriend ugly when you've never seen her; saying someone you've consistently praised in the past is not actually good; etc. Basically, how many of you think you could consistently write battle verses where every single line was a direct, true-to-life personal?

That's the most effective thing. Battling shouldn't be about being wittier than someone else. It should be about demoralizing your opponent. It should be about making them reconsider everything they're doing in life. Battling should be mean. The Discussion forum has more mean disses than the battles do here.
