The best movie I can recommend (hopefully NOT included on the old movie thread answer [too common]...(and hope that you haven't seen yet) would be...

I just searched the IMDb Top 50 movies of the 2000s and my top 4 are:

Requiem for a Dream

Blood Diamond

Donnie Darko

Memento

...That's not your genre, but I love Event Horizon (which you've seen) but not as into your genre...so these r my picks (IF u haven't seen 'em)
