Default Is DARPA going to make mutants?

http://www.darpa.mil/Our_Work/DSO/Pr...ns_(CLIO).aspx

If you're all familiar with DARPA... if curious, see their videos on Youtube of robots, cheetah-bots, surveillance bots, and also the predator drone is a DARPA invention... @Nigma @Edgar AlPo @detour @NYCSPITZ

Chyeah, you may be interested in this program called "Plan X" http://www.darpa.mil/NewsEvents/Rele...012/10/17.aspx

Quote:
Chronicle of Lineage Indicative of Origins (CLIO)

Recent innovations in biotechnology have significantly reduced the cost, time, infrastructure and level of training required to manipulate genetic code and alter the behavior of an organism. Numerous defense missions could benefit from the resulting biotechnology capabilities, but prior to developing and fielding these capabilities, the Department of Defense must establish robust and enduring control features. These technologies are required to enable the public to reap the rewards of these advances while maintaining U.S. strategic technological advantage and minimizing the medical and environmental risk in the case of accidental or intentional misuse.

The Chronicle of Lineage Indicative of Origins (CLIO) program aims to use recent advances in synthetic biology to develop genomic and proteomic capabilities that promote safe, secure biological research, protect intellectual property and prevent unwanted release of microorganisms. To encourage user adoption and ensure the maintenance of CLIO systems, control and security capabilities will be designed to have little or no impact on the fitness of host organisms.

The CLIO program includes three tracks of research and development to support these goals:
◦The Gene Guards track seeks to develop technologies to ensure the safe handling of pathogenic organisms and prevent the adverse manipulation of these pathogens (i.e., addition of virulence factors, immune modulators or antibiotic-resistant genes).
◦The Attribution track seeks to develop technologies that protect intellectual property in the microbial genome and that can be analyzed to authenticate ownership and true origin.
◦The Memory track seeks to develop persistent encoding systems that document and record the chronology, nature of manipulation and environmental conditions in an organism’s genome.

If successful, CLIO will establish enduring control elements that protect against intentionally harmful genetic engineering, prevent illegal acquisition or misuse of proprietary strains, provide novel forensic tools to assist in the investigation of biological incidents and allow responsible investigators to document compliance with safe biological manipulation practices. The program will advance the field of synthetic biology with new insight into the design and behavior of biological systems.
Interesting stuff. We are indeed in a new age.

Rawn, to be fair, you've worked for the Mayans, the Aztecs, IBM, the CIA, FBI, NSA and Wendy's. You are also fluent in 47 languages. Of those 47, 30 are dead languages.

bc im trying to recall the nanopartical that was introduced in household/toiletry supplies that had drastic implications to cellular stability that was original said to be harmless/innocuous which ended up causing microscopic mutations..and im not just talking about cancer as the sole mutation. Each and every individual was succeptable to a very different very real alteration on a cellular level.

well a nanoparticle is so small it can enter through ur pores or simply be absorbed through ur skin...now how ones body will react to that invading particle can differ on a multitude of things...other ingredients, molecular structure, absorbtion rates, that persons immune system, possible compromise of imunity, antigen/antibody recall, point of invasion...and a bunch more, u get the drift...now the particle has already passed all physical barriers of protection, where it decided to bond may also differ from person to person depending on what they hve been previously exposed to, any weakness or disease, or just proximity...these bonding points all so small have drastic effects after the particle causes single point mutations on each cell through the bodies own miotic process ..multiplying over time and intensifying itself while weaking the host...all invasions at differnt locales causing differnt mutations that occur over time causing idiopathic symptoms that can not be easily attributed to one thing, or expected to result in the same outcome...all the while the host (person) continues to use said product with said nanoparticle thereby increasing its abundance through appliction, while the body is also undergoing a constant state of increased mutation through its own cellular processes...and fto top it off, the host has no natural defense against the foreign particle bc of its synthetic nature and it not being a bacteria, a fungus or anything our Ig moleules know how to fight, infact they dont even know to fight bc it has already became part of the whole. eventually becoming the invisible visible...or we, the host, thereby become the becoming...

@Vulgar no story, true fact...things dont always behave the same way once taking out of a controlled environment; moreover time is a factor...and the length of that time is one of many variables.

In the most simplest example i can give, although the result is very different, think of the progression of cancer, first it affects the cell, the cell then undergoes a mutation and becomes immortalized, once immmortilized it continues to replicate producing more mutated cells till all those cells ultimately affect the cellular functions, once cellular function is disrupted the sorrounding tissue is then altered, these changes in the tissue are then passed onto the organ that the tissue comprises, once the organ is altered the cycle then perpetuates itself, dividing and replicating untill ultimatley the entire system has been affected...this is metasis...one cell, one alteration, that causes it to become immortallized, while continuing to replicate till it over runs the entire system. Cell, function, tissue, organ, system...this is why tumors grow at alarming rates. now imagine the same kind of process with a totally unknown and unpredicatble mutation ultimately resulting in idiopathic system alterations and mutations...each one differing bc each mutation can occur at an unknown loci, and these loci contribute to its function ...with absolutely no immunity to slow the rate of mutation and no medicine or treatment to counteract the affects bc the cause remains unknown.
