this is really two lightweights fighting at 170, tho. catchweight, technically. welterweight bout in name only.
as far as 'sparring with fighters in various classes' - true, but sparring isn't a fight. if you knew anything about mcgregor's (cerebral) approach to the game you'd know he's not the nova uniao or chute boxe type dude who will do heavy sparring and eat power shots to acclimate when his tenets are precision, speed and movement. lol. he definitely isn't afraid to take a hit, but like i said: diaz is not a fully-fledged WW, anyway. diaz doesn't 'hit hard' but his punches have pop. uh oh's breakdown is pretty accurate, diaz's length could give him problems on the hands, but kicks - which mcgregor has all day and diaz generally eschews - negate that length. diaz is also very hittable, mean-mugging and offering his chin to guys sometimes -- dude's a straight savage. i think he loses, but grits out a good fight. i think he could actually trouble him with his grappling but i can think of only ONE fight where diaz opted to tangle with a guy and that was with melvin guillard years ago. despite great jiu jitsu savvy, neither brother likes using it because stockton slaps. a lot of mcgregor's counter-punching game rests on baiting opponents so he can backstep and crack them with his tremendous left. backstepping doesn't work so well with taller guys generally (mcgregor's frame is long for the 145 class, possibly 155 too), but he's shown he can lead when he wants with push kicks and left straights albeit this was against chad 'midget' mendes. also, oats - i hope not re: nordine/silva. erick has looked pretty dismal off the steroids but taleb is very average and also french. if he wins it fucks up my accumulator.
