Heres something interesting;

if you look at the earthquake map earthquake.usgs.gov

and use the filters to show anything over a 5 then it can be seen that the major quakes seem to be migrating west and intensifying.

Generally the pattern seems to be;

4-7 days ago they were mainly around the pacific rim, last few days they traveled west in a line from north of australia to the middle east, intensifying as they go.....
