Those dictionaries are telling you how it SHOULD be spoken, if we were all robots.

But we're human, and the G is drowned out.

To assume all "Humans" pronounce the word BACK-GROUND as BACK-ROUND is even more stupid. I for the most part can definitely HEAR the "G" when pronouncing the word BACK-GROUND.
