I'd say-
At any given point, you have a population of whack noobs who have the spirit & drive to rejuvenate whatever the internet allows them to compete in

Most of the time, with healthy+ thriving leagues and sections, older veterans will only tell you that you have potential if you got talent. And they'll tell everyone else to quit

The medium good dudes will be honest with everyone but encourage you to keep trying

And the shit dudes will be fiercely loyal to one another because SOLIDARITY

that's why you have like, classes or generations of battlers. Only ppl with either the talent or the determination survive

But like the difference between a talented noob and a shit noob is so minimal. You're really just weeding out the stupid dudes who don't realize they have to improve

And with text battling, whack noobs are fucking PAINFUL to read. Almost always 0 bars vs. 0 bars. So way less people are encouraged and way less people make it through. And the only people that stick it out to the end are incredibly dope.

But yeah the only way text will survive is by replenishing it's population, and you're gonna have to either let standards drop, get mad more people, or eventually get totally wiped out and let the whack noobs take over completely
the problem is text battling is too one dimensional

with topicals you can play with structure, and actually different ideas and methods to achieve writing something dope

battling is

setup
punch
setup
punch

never ending. all the things that makes reading something tolerable, let alone enjoyable are thrown out the window so writer a can force a concept that sort of relates to writer b.

its wack, its been wack, and its been dead

i applauded david lama years ago for keeping it alive, i applaud you all for keeping it going long after

but its never gonna change and it can't change. its just not a fun format to read anymore or be involved in

when it started people could barely get on the internet

in this day and age you can record with anything, theres no point in posting lyrics essentially. and the only reason topicals keep going is because you can actually make them enjoyable to read

you could do the same with battles but while flow and smoothness would go up, everything else would go down (concepts) in favor of being readable

better off just rapping.

but part of text battling was it was a place for the nerds who cant/dont want to/are terrible to write raps

its changed to much.

long rant out
