So with this approach, is the precedent that we can simply use a portion of the name that's mispronounced? I too am guilty of using the Bey np. I'm not going to lie. It's hypocritical of me to suggest otherwise. Never even thought ab it like that. With that said, it's something I don't think we should be doing. Because if all we have to do is start using portions of the name regardless if their pronounced a similar way, then doesnt that dumb down what we're writing? If I took the Am from Amen and applied it to say Gotham. Or Amherst. Or Amtrak. Or Gundam. Wouldn't that be a lazy approach? Bey is the only person I've ever really messed up with in that regards bc I thought it was more of a nickname.
If this is the precedent, my vote should be changed to Allen Knight. If it isn't, and we don't want to go down this slippery slope, then it remains Amen. |
