Ultimately the problem with your entire team is that you have guys like Howie Long and Art Shell and Gene Upshaw and Dick Butkus who are 30-plus pounds underweight for their positions now. Are you trying to build a team of the greatest players or the greatest possible team? Those guys would get destroyed if I chose this year's All-Pro first team as my roster.

So lol. Shell and Upshaw are underweight, which I'm ok with and did think about. Shell wouldn't be giving up much weight in general match ups against 3-4 backers and 4-3 ends, however Upshaw would be giving up more significant weight differential. That's where his chemistry with Shell comes in, as well as his nastiness and smarts. Plus, you generally get more double teams inside, so help from Mike Webster is indeed great help, since Hutch at right guard isn't giving up weight. Howie Long is 10-20 pounds less than some of the better 3-4 ends, so his athleticism, grit, determination and know how make that up for me easily.

Art Shell was 265 pounds. Gene Upshaw was 255. Mike Webster was 255.
Do you think it's a coincidence that the biggest offensive linemen tend to be left tackles? This is the blind side of your line (for a somewhat immobile quarterback, I might add). There is no way Art Shell is taking J.J. Watt on the edge, or Upshaw is taking Ndamukong Suh or Geno Atkins on the inside. The three modern D-linemen I just named all are substantially bigger, stronger and faster than your three most important pass blockers. That would be a problem. The opposite of this would happen: ![]() I was wrong about Dick Butkus, though. I thought he was 230. I should have checked.
