good read. i enjoyed the commentary. well done. king ra vs mike was a classic moment. two heavyweights of the mod world, face to face. i love it. i think pancake brah was a great addition to the mag this week. well done, very interesting. pancake brah, what is a troll? truly? someone who out writes the competition and goes 1-2 in the power ranks the whole way through a season? 14 and 3? while you no show 5 times and duck pink slip battles and discuss "boarding personality"?

It's a very different skill set. Plus I'm a very competitive person.

Skill set is the same. You can write or you can't. The only change is the competitive impetus. I just fail to see much difference aside from motivation and trying to win the conceptual battle.

To me the difference is that 90% of Open Mic verses are rambling and all over the place. Some writers do that spectacularly, like Darth Yoda. Other writers, like myself, just don't have much to say about themselves. Yes, you can tell a story just for the Open Mic section, but does anyone really?

I've seen a lot of great Open Mic writers struggle in topical battles, and the reverse is even more true.

I think you're overgeneralizing open mic. There's plenty of 'topical' type of verses in the forum. It is more freeform I guess but a talented writer is a talented writer. A sub par writer is a sub par writer. Water, when cold, becomes ice in my tumbler.

Good mag. Never distinguished between open mic and topicals before tbh, but I can see Certain's angle. Not sure if I espouse it; to me open mic is just a place to post topicals and/or flexes.

@Certain no I had not read any verses by Vivid. I thought it was Oats and had my analysis/preconceptions already.
