I liked this, even though the approach was a bit played. You're coming into your own as a writer; make sure you put original spins on this breed of Atlantian alternate history culture, because it's very easy to fall into the typical category. I'd recommend listening to some Masta Buildas on YouTube to gauge where no one has been before. There are so many areas you can get into and spit some philosophy on. Keep writing though, you are getting tough at this.
