simple really, you are experiencing the normal discomfort of being unable to be alone with your thoughts, aka, "empty time". So this discomfort kicks in your limbic system which in turns lowers your Dopamine levels, which in turn increases your discomfort etc. etc. etc. The cigarettes used to be used to kill this "dead time" and provide a quick shot of Dopamine to counter your discomfort, but now, you masterbate because it has replaced the cig as a way to kill empty time and also provide dopamine to your starved brain. Pretty much what I figured. I knew about the dopamine part of it since I had read into withdrawal symptoms the last time I quit.

Depressed seems a bit extreme. I just read dysthmic. Meh, maybe. Being melancholy has it's charms.
