He was sober a number of years before he died.
That probably progressed his life a number of years longer than it would have been. Great musician. God rest his soul!

Lou Reed was one of the coolest people. All four Velvet Underground albums are seminal, though I don't think they ever quite hit the level of Velvet Underground and Nico after that. From his solo work, I always preferred Berlin to Transformer, but mostly his albums were fragmented, like his soul.
