I liked his solo stuff and a couple Velvet Underground. Not as familiar with his music as I probably should be. Still, a verifiable legend.

He was sober a number of years before he died.

That probably progressed his life a number of years longer than it would have been.

Lou Reed was one of the coolest people. All four Velvet Underground albums are seminal, though I don't think they ever quite hit the level of Velvet Underground and Nico after that. From his solo work, I always preferred Berlin to Transformer, but mostly his albums were fragmented, like his soul.
