I don't deadlift anymore. Maxed 4 plates but I fucked up my back doing a non-lifting activity and it's not worth the risk to me anymore. I never used straps. Some people do it for max attempts only which is respectable. But for rep work I would suggest against it and just do some grip work if it starts failing. My opinion, others disagree.
Hitting 2 plates on bench is a great feeling. Doing it for 10+ was a big milestone for me.
