I haven't lived in my parents' house since I left for college, excusing two-month summer vacations during my freshman and sophomore years. I didn't come back for summers as a junior or senior, and I got a job halfway across the country when I graduated. Now I visit twice a year.

so really...think about the psychological ramifications of never moving on to the next stage of development...independence autonomy etc.

Moved out at 18. It's pretty usual over here, though. Few people actually stay at their parents' when they go to college. But then again, being a student is far cheaper here and you get a lot more financial aid, so of course, it's easier to have your own place.
