WBL Mag - 11th of March 2007
 Intro Decent week, some cool battles went ahead. Corey vs Spit happened and it was nice. After all the beef it lived up to the hype in a tight battle. Corey took it to retain his title again. Merc won against Tavarez to jump into the champ match. Corey-Mercules should be nice, and Mercules has often said that he wanted to battle and beat Richard Corey. Let’s peep the Myspace cypher stuff. The MySpace Member Diss Cypher Not a bad cypher. More tight heads need to start dropping in it though, it’s a good chance for an easy win, and the only chance to have a loss removed. Let’s peep the top punches before I announce the winner. Battle Reviews WBL Championship Match: 1. Richard Corey (7-0) vs 2. $pitacular (5-1) Tight battle here. Spit dropped first and he had a cool verse. The RC bar was dooope, never seen that play on Corey before and it was worded to hit perfectly. Tight bar. King of garbage was cool and I thought the robe bar was simple but really funny. Cool verse overall, some weak stuff, but mostly consistent. Corey dropped and his verse was nice as well. Dollar signs bar was tight, shit storm was funny, pussy or dick was a cool bar and the avatar bar was hilarious. Corey was more consistent and had less weak stuff, along with more quotables in my eyes. It was pretty onesided in voting also, with Corey taking it 5 votes to 1. Cool battle, Corey won and retained his title. WBL Contendership Match: 3. N.Tavarez (4-0) vs 4. Mercules (8-3) Good battle here. Tav dropped first and he had a cool verse. He dropped a connect bar that was fresh, weird that I haven’t seen it before, but it was dope ‘n hit hard. He had a glasses bar that made me laugh out loud, funny as hell, I liked that. Merc dropped cool as well. He had a tav ar ez bar that I thought would be played on Tav, but actually isn’t, so that was a nice fresh nameplay. And he dropped a Rich from Spit bar that was dope. Worded perfectly and it hit nicely. Merc took it pretty comprehensively to move into the champ match. 5. Te Ora (4-0) vs 6. Urban Legend (7-2) Decent battle. Urban dropped first and his verse was pretty good. Had some cool stuff in it. The low-shin bar was fresh and clever, I was feelin that. Euphony was good, but worded weird, and he put a weird newb explanation type thing next to it. Te Ora dropped ok, some of his concepts were off. His wording and style is pretty flawless, but his concepts lack at times. He had an avg bar that was cool though. Urban Legend won. 7. soze (3-0) vs 8. Prosecutor (5-1) Prosecutor won via no-show. 9. Sound (7-3) vs 10. Intricate (5-2) Intricate got caught biting, fuckin faggot. Sound won. 11. TEF (2-0) vs 12. DaTrusHurtz (3-1) Not feelin this battle. It had a clear winner though and he lost lol. TEF didn’t drop great, nothing in his verse really stood out. He had a hit the sack bar that coulda been good, but I’ve seen it used similarly and better elsewhere. DaTrus was more consistent, again though, nothing stood out from his verse. He was better but a newb vote was the decider, and TEF took it. DTH don’t seem the bitching type, but if he does: you posted 2 days late, there’s no way I’m leavin a battle open ‘n screwin the week up cos of that. Yea, TEF won. 13. G (2-1) vs 14. CruelMansGrandma (1-1) CMG won via no-show. 15. Mr Marvellous (1-1) vs 16. Confirm Password (1-0) Aightish battle, quite consistent I guess. Nothing really stood out cept a sweats the small stuff bar from Confirm. Mr Marvellous was a bit more consistent though ‘n that helped him to take the win here. 17. Popcorn (1-0) vs 18. RCG Tiburon (1-0) Poor battle. Popcorn dropped first and his verse was full of simple stuff. Only bar that hit was the Miss bar and that’s still pretty played ‘n simple. RCG had nothing though. Popcorn won easily. 19. Mr. Q (1-1) vs 20. styk figer (1-0) styk won via no-show. 21. Mufasa (1-0) vs 22. Kapernikus (3-3) I dunno if the people who voted for Mufasa were joking or not. Yea, his verse was pretty poor. Kapernikus didn’t drop great but he clearly had a better verse. It was quite close in voting amazingly, but Kapernikus edged it out by 1 vote. 23. Sureloc Holmes (1-2) vs 24. wizerd (2-0) Pretty weak battle. Sureloc dropped first and his verse was aightish. The wiz nameplay was pretty funny, I was feelin that. White beards was also quite funny. I wasn’t feelin anything Wiz dropped, he had a ketchup-tomato concept lol. Sureloc won. 25. V. Vega (1-0) vs 26. Out Writechas (0-1) Out took it pretty easy. Vega is aight but he didn't drop anything special really. The Out house bar was creative though, but he had mostly weak stuff. Out dropped quick but he dropped clearly better. Tighter style and better concepts. His quotable was cool also. Out took it. 27. Ill Skillz (0-1) vs 28. wolverine (0-1) Ill Skillz won via no-show. 29. Aura (0-0) vs 30. Wordz AhGod (0-0) Wordz AhGod won via no-show. 31. Justify (0-0) vs 32. Tebo (0-0) Justify dropped a decent verse. He has a pretty cool style and I see him doing quite well in the league. He dropped a next week bar that was funny, prob the best BAL type bar I’ve seen yet. The rest of his verse was consistently average. Decent overall. Tebo didn’t drop great but I see room for improvement. He’s reasonably creative and it seems like he has the base for elevation. Nothing notable in his verse this week though. Justify won. 33. The Gunslinger vs 34. nastizzle (0-0) vs 35. Apocolypse (0-0) The Gunslinger won via no-show. 36. Nique (0-0) vs 37. Area51 (2-2) Nique dropped an ok verse, it seemed pretty rushed but it was still decent. The Area nameplay was cool ‘n clever, nice bar. Iono how Area got votes, he had quite a lotta played shit. Richard Corey (8-0) vs 2. Mercules (9-3) Should be a nice battle. Merc dropped a cool verse last week and stepped it up from what he’d been dropping previously. Corey also dropped better than he had been doing and he beat Spit pretty comprehensively. I think Corey is better than Merc though, so I see Corey taking it. WBL Contendership Match: 3. Urban Legend (8-2) vs 4. Prosecutor (6-1) Should be UL vs soze but soze no-showed. Prosecutor snuck here, I’m tryna think of a battle he didn’t win via no-show. Needless to say, he’s won most of his battles by no-show. Not his fault, I know, but still. Urban dropped a good verse last week, I wasn’t really feelin Prosecutor’s drop. Urban to win. 5. Sound (8-3) vs 6. CruelMansGrandma (2-1) I’m still not really sure who CMG is, must be an alias with that stupid name. Sound is nice, he got an easy win due to Intricate getting caught biting last week. Prior to that he was in the champ match, so that shows that he’s good. Cruel isn’t bad, but I don’t see him beating Sound. 7. Mr Marvellous (2-1) vs 8. Popcorn (2-0) Mr Marvellous is pretty decent, he beat Confirm Password who I rate quite highly. Popcorn is a very simple battler, he doesn’t bring much other than simple punches. Mr Marvellous will win. 9. $pitacular (5-2) vs 10. N.Tavarez (4-1) RapBattles vs RapVerse. Looks like it’s gonna be a nice battle. Both dropped cool verses last week in quite close battles, with a bar or two difference this coulda been the champ match. Spit raised his game to a higher level though, and if he continues that I see him taking this one. 11. Vaskez (3-1) vs 12. styk figer (2-0) styk figer ain’t great, I haven’t really felt much of what he’s dropped. Vaskez is back, time for more polite “nice mag…but…” comments lol. I wasn’t really feelin what he was droppin when he was last in the league, but he’s the better battler so he should win. 13. Kapernikus (4-3) vs 14. Te Ora (4-1) Kapernikus beat Mufasa easily last week where as Te Ora took a loss to Urban. Te Ora is better here though, and he should win pretty easily. 15. Out Writechas (1-1) vs 16. Sureloc Holmes (2-2) Sureloc dropped an okish verse last week, nothing special but nothing terrible. Out dropped better, his verse was decent. Out should take it. 17. Ill Skillz (1-1) vs 18. Confirm Password (2-1) Confirm was unlucky to lose, his battle was pretty close. Ill Skillz got a no-show win, his verse was ok. I think Confirm is the better battler and he’ll take it. 19. Nique (1-0) vs 20. The Gunslinger (1-0) Nique dropped an ok, but rushed verse, last week. It was still ok ‘n quite creative though so I see her climbing the ranks so easily. Gunslinger isn’t great from what he dropped last week. Nique to win. 21. Justify (1-0) vs 22. Wordz AhGod (1-0) Justify is pretty good, he has a cool style ‘n he dropped some good stuff last week. Wordz is ok, but I don’t think he’s as good as Justify. Justify to win. 23. Tebo (0-1) vs 24. RCG Tiburon (1-1) Eh battle. It’s pretty sad that these two are so high. Neither are great and are pretty much on the cusp of being booted. Guess, RCG to win. 25. V. Vega (1-1) vs 26. John Daniels (0-1) Vega’s not great, I ain’t feelin him really. Can’t remember the last verse that John Daniels dropped. JD to win though. 27. Rhode (0-0) vs 28. Bayou (0-0) Dunno either. Guess, Bayou wins via no-show. 29. ScarInk (0-0) vs 30. Mariah (0-0) Mariah will win via no-show. 31. low76 (0-0) vs 32. casper (0-0) vs 33. trich0me (0-0) Triple no-show. Top 20 Breakdown 1. Richard Corey (8-0) Obvious yes. N.Tavarez (4-1) Been droppin some cool verses, prob his best for a little while. Should They Be Here? Yes 11. Vaskez (3-1) Good enough to be in the current batch of top 20 people we have. Out Writechas (1-1) Pretty good battler, has dropped some cool stuff so far. Should They Be Here? Yes 16. Sureloc Holmes (2-2) Haven’t liked much of what he’s dropped so far. Should They Be Here? Confirm Password (2-1) Had a pretty close battle with Mr Marvellous and lost, still a decent battler though. Should They Be Here? Yes 19. Nique (1-0) I’ve gotta change it from “Should He Be Here” to “Should They Be Here” cos of her lol. Nique’s pretty nice, she’ll prob reach the champ match straight away. Should They Be Here? Yes 20. The Gunslinger (1-0) Ugh, poor battler, on the cusp of being booted. Should They Be Here? No Potentially Dope Justify – Dropped a nice Myspace cypher verse and his regular verse was cool as well. I see him doing well. Vaskez – I wasn’t feelin what he dropped in the WBL last time around, but last season in the LLL he was droppin some ill stuff. Let’s hope he drops like that this time. Top 10 Power Rankings 10. Mr Marvellous – More potential than anything at the moment. Needs to drop some haymakers to stand a chance in the higher ranks of the league. 9. Out Writechas – He’s dropped 2 cool verses in the league so far and he seems to be improving by the week. 8. Nique – I don’t see her not getting to the champ match. Dropped a decent verse last week without even really trying. 7. Te Ora – Needs to improve his concepts a bit, but his wording and style are flawless. 6. N.Tavarez – The voting wasn’t close, but the verses were against Merc last week. He’s a nice battler. Has a hard battle against Spit this week though. 5. $pitacular – Dropped a nice verse against Corey. If he beats Tavarez then I expect him to get to the champ match again. 4. Urban Legend – Made a large step up with his verse last week. If he keeps it up he’ll prob be in the champ match. 3. Sound – I don’t see him not getting to the champ match in 2 weeks time. 2. Mercules – Dropped cool last week. As I mentioned earlier, he’s beat Butler and John Hensley before, Corey is a legend that he’s wanted to beat for a while. We’ll have to see if he does it. 1. Richard Corey – The stand out best. Only a couple of people have the skill to beat him in this league currently, so I see him hanging on to the belt for a while longer. Outro The leagues looking pretty pitiful at the moment. I’m not talking size wise, as I could get rid of the BAL and have a 55+ person league. I’m talking skill wise. The top 20 in particular looks pretty weak. Step it up and prove that you’ve earnt your place. Instead of wasting energy complaining about top punches or whatever, use that energy on writing a line.
