WEEK SEVEN MAG: BAD VOTERS OR AM I BIPOLAR??
Intro: I originally wrote a very pessimistic and hateful introduction saying y’all didn’t give any effort to voting so I wasn’t giving any effort to the mag. But upon a more rational thought process I’ve seen that you guys have for the most part done your best and put your best foot forward week in and week out and I appreciate that. This league is just heating up we’ve got 5 weeks left until the playoffs and with a couple more legitimate sign ins we could be in for a spectacular finish. (@Inno @Bodey @Johnny 6 feet I’m talking to people like YOU) Verses are due SUNDAY which is also my BIRTHDAY so please don’t disappoint me even more on my birthday than I will already be. REVIEWS: Wasn’t much to cover this week in terms of actual battles. Had a couple of decent bouts though buried under all of the no shows and what not. CONTENDERS: SCAR 2-0 vs OBJECTIVE 2-2 This was a lot more competitive than it seemed to be on paper. Objective has been a writer who has had ups and downs (obviously based on his record) BUT I feel like he’s finally coming to form. I think Universe mentioned I haven’t given him the most diverse range of topics? So I apologize if that’s true but he’s definitely done a lot with a little and I really vibes with his self reflective piece this week and just examining what it is to be human to have this conflicting battle of heart/brain. His last two entries of the week have been the best two I’ve read from him not only all season but in general, I am very proud of his progress. Scar told another grandiose tale comparing the heart and the brain to armies and it was really reminiscent of some of his work in the GWL which is bad news for future opponents. Scar won here easily in votes but honestly Objective has a bright future in these leagues if he keeps writing, I loved the way he vented this week. WINNER: SCAR MR. J 3-2 vs FRAZE 1-0 Very cool battle here and a great matchup of different styles. Mr. J seemed a bit uninspired this week to me, he’s gone on a recent 2-loss skid after his championship berth a couple of weeks ago. His flow was top notch as always and the way he weaves his bars together through his multis is always phenomenal. But overall Fraze had the more interesting narrative here although both writers took similar paths. Fraze had deeper bars he went more in depth in his description of this trek we take when we fall in love, how a simple hike through the good and bad, desert sands and then you match yourself straight into a hole. It all resonated with me a great deal. Fraze earned himself a contenders match this week with a great showing awesome job to both battlers. WINNER: FRAZE NO SHOW/DQ SHINE We had one no show battle and two win by default via DQ so this little section is to pay homage to their valiant efforts. MMLP: Quote:

Week 3: Elia Colombo Week 4: Avogado6 Week 5: Joey Guidone Week 6: Sergio Lagravalle Week 7: Pawel Kuczynski POWER RANKINGS: I think there’s been a few surprises this season and some people coming out of the woodwork, proving to be just as competitive as our mainstay guys. 1. UNIVERSE 6-0 - Duh. The guy is the only champion we’ve had this season for a reason, though on paper it would be easy to point out that Universe has had a couple of no show wins, not to mention his DQ victory over Master Rock last week. It wouldn’t be hard to say Uni hasn’t faced the stiffest competition either. Mr. J was probably his hardest fought victory this season BUT a few challenges loom in the distance, GWL champion SCAR this week and not to mention whoever the victor is between Fraze and the established Lars if he manages to get past his challenge this week. We will see if he hangs on to that belt in the coming weeks but for now he is the man to beat. 2. SCAR 3-0 - Obviously this guy is in the contenders match this week so he’s the no brainer for the number two spot. Scar isn’t hitting the heights that he’s hit in some of his Open Mic pieces or when he commanded the GWL for a short while this last season but he is still a formidable foe and knows his way around a topical. He seems to be picking up a head of steam coming into the champ match. It’ll be interesting to see how he measures up to Uni, that will be the real test to see where he is at this season, but it should be respected that Scar can turn on the jets at any time and go another GWL-esque run. Put some RESPECK on his name. 3. DIABLO 2-0 - The manpoem, the myth, the legend. Lars has made a name from himself on the internet whether it be on the Don’t Flop circuit, text battling or being a topical legend. He last champed the Black August II tourney over yours truly last we heard from him. He’s been at it for an eternity but still has plenty in the tank so competitors beware! 4. FRAZE 2-0 - Fraze is a newcomer but he has a couple solid Ws under his belt including against a pretty good Mr. J. He’s in the contenders match this week, Universe has compared his style a lot to a fresh Scar. He has creativity, he’s technically sound and he writes solid narratives. He’ll be a sleeper to look out for. 5. MMLP 4-2 - MMLP is a mainstay, he’s been in a couple of Contender Matches this season and is probably prime for me if he stays signed in. His narrative driven topicals are always sly in their pop culture references as well as technically efficient in his writing. He’s dope definitely and can put himself towards the top of the list with a little more push. Let’s see what he can do in the coming weeks. PREVIES: CHAMP MATCH: UNIVERSE 6-0 vs SCAR 3-0 Universe hasn’t exactly battled scrubs this season but at times his competition has probably appeared as non-threatening. I don’t think that argument can be made here. Scar is as real a threat as they come, he’s proven in the past that he has the skill to take down Uni and he’s finally rolling, clicking on all cylinders. This will be a fight tooth and nail, Universe is in the midst of telling a continuous story while Scar is more set on telling little individual week to week narratives it will be an awesome matchup but only can win and I think Uni CREEPS by here by a small margin. UNIVERSE WINS 55/45 CONTENDERS MATCH: DIABLO 2-0 vs FRAZE 2-0 This promises to be one to remember. We’ve got the wily veteran Diablo aka Lars aka Clutbuck aka any other fucking alias you can think of in one corner who is still at the peak of his topical abilities at the tender age of 4008, and on the other side we have a relatively new face in Fraze who made some ripples in the NBL and has definitely impressed with his two entries into the AOWL. Lars is hyper competitive, and without a torture porn collection to derail his attention he should bring it heavy this week as he usually does. He’s technically proficient and is very esteemed with the craft. Fraze has his work cut out for him and I feel like he will ultimately fall even though he’ll have an awesome showing. But we will see DIABLO WINS 65/35 CANDY 1-4 vs BROKENHAL0 0-1 Candy has been great in this league, he’s voted, he’s showed up and he’s been competitive he actually had a very good verse against Objective last week but ultimately fell. Brokenhal0 is a keystyler in its purest form, he sees his topic, writes and then disappears into oblivion until the next week there doesn’t seem to be a thought process to it which usually bodes well for his opponents. Candy has showed the ability to write solid narratives and use colorful language I think that will give him an advantage here. CANDY WINS 70/30 MMLP 4-2 vs OBJECTIVE 2-3 You may have seen MMLP’s request for this battle to happen and seeing it come to fruition may have you question my modding. Well, it’s not like that, this battle made the most sense for trying to diversify things this week. Both of these writers are dope, while one is just coming to form the other is trying to reach that next tier, knocking at the door continually. He’s in the conversation and if he stays signed in as previously mentioned he’ll have a legitimate shot at the title. There’s a lot of moving pieces here including MMLP already getting his verse posted, Objective has a hill to overcome here and if he’ll be able to do it is TBD buuuut my gut is going with MMLP here in a close one. MMLP WINS 60/40 MASTER ROCK 3-3 vs MR J 3-3 Cool matchup here of two guys who have been to the champion match of this league but have both had their downs as well. Master Rock defaulted out of his shot at the belt last week by getting DQ’d for editing his verse after the allotted time to do so. Mr. J lost to a rising Fraze in a pretty decent showing. Both of these guys are tremendous writers and have showed a lot of promise, though they’re both on their individual skids I think Rock is the more inspired of the two of them and the one who at this moment has a better chance of using this match to their benefit to get back on the right track. It’ll be a good and close match for sure. MASTER ROCK WINS 55/45 ADVERSE 0-1 vs PHARAOHS ARMY 3-3 By: An anonymous, totally unbiased source. One sided matchup here, ladies and gents. Pharaohs Army is coming off a DQ win over brokenhal0 (a battle he clearly lost) and has spent most of his week studying Uni's verses in the archives in hopes of someday replicating such skill and ability (he won't). His biggest claim to fame was an upset win over dead man in the GWL, which still stands as the biggest miscarriage of justice since Lars' baby accused Destroyer's baby of being part of a voting ring in the Before Life. PA has shown flashes of above average-ness from time to time but he is largely cannon fodder to the top guys at this point. The current Black August II co-winner Adverse is coming off a forfeit loss to Scar, (a battle which he won but didn't have the patience to wait for the lazy trolls that inhabit this league to vote) thus serving him up this week as a ritualistic human sacrifice to the soon to be 12-0 champ, Universe. Addy will have no problem putting a win on his record here. Unless, of course, he gets into a car accident or something... Which would actually be poetic because he'd most likely wake up on an island purgatory like his verse of the year candidate from the GWL. Art imitates death? Let's hope not... Because then Inno would have to take back over and Pharaohs Army has a better chance of not hate voting Universe this week than Inno does at running a league smoothly... Adverse wins 90/10 ZE OUTRO: Thanks for another solid week guys hoping more people show to vote and that we can keep a head of steam going towards the playoffs. Keep doing your part I’ve loved reading the verses y’all come up with thus far. Had an alternate verse on MMLP’s topic but accidentally deleted it instead. Just know it was like letting a girl know how you feel and wanting to hear those three words and you do but the three words are “LOL THX FAGGOT” Versy out |

@Adverse I appreciate the shout out mate. Unfortunately I'm more tied up than a ball of yarn right now and will be for the foreseeable future. I'll be back on the site at some point but I've got no idea when that is. Kudos to everyone in the league for putting the effort in to represent.
Keep doing your thing guys and gals. |
