Football fans: let's build the greatest team ever.
So on offense. You have to be versatile. The best way to be versatile is to play single back and have a Tight End that can get vertical as well as block. In this offense, blocking is more important, because most the time we want to be able to pass and run with a 3 receiver set. I think the best running backs ever are Jim Brown, Walter Payton, and Barry Sanders. In that order. However, Barry would be the best for this offense. The other 2 were more grind it out runners, Brown especially.
So let's put Barry as our main back with Gale Sayers as his number 2. Quarterback I'm taking Brady. I'm not discussing it. He gets the job done and he beats other elite teams with regularity. He's fiery as well as emotional, which is good. I want Bronco Nagurski at Full back when the team would have goal line or i form sets. The receivers. Rice. Obviously. The other is where there could be a lot of debate. Personally I want a field stretcher. Rice is the prototype for possession receivers and did it better than anyone. So we don't need another. Anyway, I'm taking Moss. He's a touchdown machine and his hayday was a blur, athletically superior, and hands of glue. Slot receiver. I know in the other thread I said Wes welker was the best slot receiver ever, and he is. However , I'm taking someone who didn't play in the slot, but I fell easily could. Tory Holt. He's of smaller stature, and has an insane ability to find the openings in zones like he's been there before. One of the best route runners ever and great hands is icing on the cake. Tight End is Tony Gonzalez. Cool thanks. Left Tackle. I'm taking Art Shell. Left Guard. Gene Upshaw He spent most of his career with art shell so they have chemistry Center Mike Webster. He ridiculously consistent for so long for the steel curtain led Steeler teams. Right Guard I'm going Steve Hutchinson He won 7 all pros in a row with Seattle and Minnesota. That's ridiculous. He spent most of his career opening up holes for Shawn Alexander and Adrian Peterson. Right Tackle. Orlando Pace He spent most of his career at left tackle but with how good he was it'd be ignorant to think he couldn't switch sides and still dominate. Defense. Were gonna run a 3-4. It allows more variation. Nose tackle. Vince Wilfork. He's incredible. Just absolutely incredible. Defensive Ends Haloti Ngata @uh-oh can tell you why. Because if you don't know why, watch better. Howie Long Great size, speed, length and athleticism he's a perfect fit here. Outside backers Kevin Greene and Lawrence Taylor Obviously. Inside Backers Ray Lewis and Dick Butkus. Obviously. Corners Remember it's a 3-4 so most the time we want to jam. That takes out one of the best in Deon Sanders. So for me, the best 2 3-4 corners were Rod Woodson and Ronnie Lott. This is very much up for discussion. Safeties. Troy. Perfect strong safety for a 3-4. Just perfect. Steve Atwater. Receivers would fear the middle and he was a sure tackler. Ray Guy and Vinatieri Dante Hall/Devin Hester to return kicks. And boom. Best team ever. The lineup would be... QB: Brady RB: Sanders, Sayers FB: Nagurski WR: Rice, Moss SR: Holt, Largent TE: Tony Gonzales LT: Shell LG: Upshaw C: Webster RG: Hutchinson RT: Pace Defense (3-4) NT: Wilfork LE: Ngata RE: Long OLB: Greene, Taylor ILB: Lewis, Butkus CB: Woodson, Lott SS: Polomalu FS: Atwater K: Vinatieri P: Guy Returner: Hester Let's discuss.
