THE OG EDITORIAL: Round 2 Freestyle Mag.
The views and opinions expressed in this mag are solely my own. "Freestyle" means im drawing from memory, not backtracking doing research. Also, typos galore. No proof-reading here.
Round 1 off-the-cuff breakdown Top ranked seed bags soundly defeated 16th seeded jilti. The matchup was fairly onesided, as the seedings would have estimated, with bags landed the majority of his punches cleanly. Jilti seemed alittle off and/or just not capable of matching the material thrown at him. All in all it was a good effort but bags advances to the next round with alot of momentum. We also saw 15th seeded competitor cred take the fight to the 2nd seeded competitor orc. Cred attacked orc aggressively and came strapped with heavy gun bars & a very direct style of wording. Hard hitting for sure, the only problem being orc who managed to slip and counter alot of his opponents aggression, using well placed personals and smooth wording coupled with wit. Cred was throwing heavy 1-2 combos but orc bested him by attacking from more angles and landing alot of power shots of his own. In the end the 2nd seed knocked off the 15th seed, stamping his passport to the next round. I got to square up with 4th seeded vet toil. I came into the match expecting a fight and i got one. Toil is usually very consistent with little to no holes in his game. Not a master of any one style, but a jack of all trades. I knew my best bet was to get to the point, so he doesn't box me into a corner with better wording, and to come directly at him, as hes known for being really creative with concepts, i didnt wanna fight his fight. I wanted to make it a contrast of styles, and hope that my approach went over better than his. By the end of the fight i had taken a few lumps but ultimately it was a clear victory for me. Based on seed ranking alone, this was the upset of the round. On paper, 8th seeded Infiltration and 9th seeded Junto was to be the closest battle of the round. Although neither particularly wowed the voters, it was a solid fight that had its back n forth moments. Overall inf was given the clear decision victory on the judges scorecards. It mightve been anyones battle, but when Infiltration landed his "..set is history" bar, junto was rattled and never recovered fully. This gave us a clear winner and changed the course of the fight. Good battle but infiltration moves on to round 2 and bigger challenges to rally against. Wow. 7th seeded perennial vet ill nik-a engaged in the equivalent of a bar room brawl with 10 seeded newcomer and perennial underdog mftastik. This was a wild matchup that saw missed haymakers, guys falling through the ropes, eye pokes, and questionable punch choices. I personally found this matchup intriguing even before it went down, but i wouldve never guessed the outcome. Mftastik keeps pulling off wins hes not supposed to. And this was his biggest one yet. Imo this was truely the upset of the week and its not even close. Mftastik advances, knocking off a truely skilled vet in the process. Down goes Frazier!! Down goes Frazier!!! In arguably the closest battle of the round, 4th seeded allen knight returned to face off with 12th seeded destroyer. Allen knight took off the second half of the season, and it may or may not have led to the ring rust that caused his downfall here. Both came ready to fight, throwing a nice array of punches and supplementing them with good footwork (wording). Destroyer just had more snap on the end of his punches and wore ak down. Allen almost pulled off the last minute rally to secure a win but the final bell sounded before he could do this. Another lower seed knocking off the higher ranked seed. Really good matchup here but destroyer fought hard and surprised the crowd. In the 2 preliminary Reserve bouts we sawjoe boston apply his trade and get the clear win over iamrhetoric. It wasnt a pretty fight but joe boston continues to work his angles and gain ring experience. Hes stuck with it throughout the season and rightfully scoops up the win here. Knucklehead got the dub over his opponent and returning vet from many years past, evolve. Unfortunately this battle, like the other reserve battle, didnt receive many votes but every vote that was tallied went his way. He will face off against joe in the reserve finals. 11th seeded Schadenfreude showed up ready to fight but unfortunately was no showed by his 6th seeded opponent. In true warrior fashion, he showed his hand and shadowboxed anyway as his opponent watches from ringside and decided he didnt want those problems. Schad moves on to the next round unscathed, but if his verse was any indiction, he has alot more fight in him. 3rd seeded Cashius was also a victim of the phantom opponent, as his 14th seeded opponent moonwalked away from the venue as quick as possible. Expect cash to drop heat next round tho, his seeding is legit. ROUND 1 Top Punches (no particular order) "Wow, you've a hopeless pen. C needed Squaaaad to get votes again How you gonna battle me using lines Hush wrote for you that I wrote for him" --orc ,scathing personal. "Got an auto mod Sig, still living at home’ll get it bombed kid extendo in my palmed rig, I call the clip Vic, that’s 30 at yo mom’s crib." --Schadenfreude, creative personal "let off the Tommy 20's era gangster style; what'll end is misery call my gun a period piece. cuz that drama have me shootin til your set is history" --Infiltration, solid wp/tough talk "Them bars he write all was wack as shit. this a whitewash on that drastic tip. if he had any idea how fucked he is hed grab the lightbulb & smoke crack w it" --bags, solid humor/imagery " I'm past hate, fuck ur sports refs, ur leaving in a cast, mate or u gonna Broussard when I hit u in the knee if it's not a fast break" --destroyer, fresh wordplay/great wording ROUND 2: TALE OF THE TAPE Bags vs Infiltration Bags-- aggression, metaphors, versatile. Infiltration-- wordplay, metaphors, versatile. Im pretty sure bags is 1-0 vs infiltration this season. Bags has yet to be defeated during the regular season and post season. Hes coming into this round with massive amounts of momentum and steadily increasing confidence. Infiltration is going to have to attack from all types of angles if he wants to put a dent in bags' armor. Very polished wording and the ability to match bags' fiery aggression may be his key to victory here. All in all i have bags as the favorite here but anything can happen. Orc vs Mftastik Orc-- witty, versatile, very polished Mftastik-- unorthodox, polished, haymakers Someone once described mftastik as being the NBL's "one hitter quitter", very accurate observation. Hes very outgunned here tho, as his opponent has a deep toolbox to work out of. Mftastik will HAVE to come with more consistent punches that land solidly, as opposed to relying on the strength of a haymaker or 2. Mftastik will need to really wear his opponent down otherwise orc's gonna style on him like its nothin. I expect orcs experience and cool-like demeanor to ali shuffle around mftastik here en route to a clear win. Cashius vs Schadenfreude Cashius-- versatile, aggression, metaphors Schadenfreude-- polished, witty, metaphors This is a toss up. At face value, Cashius should have the necessary tools to beat schade here. However, schade is an enigma. Hes had appearances where NBL champ seemed like a foregone conclusion. Then he'll follow that up this next week with a less than atellar performance. But make no mistake, schade is always a threat to anyone. It depends on which schade shows up. Ultimately though im picking cash here based on his track record and known abilities. Hes very consistent and always shows up ready to battle. Theres no slacking in his macking. Destroyer vs Kenny the OG Destroyer-- experience, very polished, versatile Kenny the OG-- experience, versatile, metaphors Humble?? Fuck is that??? Kenny 3-0 bodybag of the century Knucklehead vs Joe Boston Knucklehead-- experience, polished, metaphors Joe Boston-- unorthodox, aggression, metaphors Joe is just missing a few vital tools to make the transtition from low tier to mid tier. Will this be the week he puts it all together? If not, Knucklehead will take this with a more polished verse. OUTRO ....shits over nigga. Beat it.
