Chapter One: Line in the Sand

“Silence has a sound…” – Muhammad Imran Hasan

……

I struck quick as lightning above, that’s what thunder demands
How could I trudge across sand when there’s blood on my hands?
He used underhanded tactics, it was too late to discover his plan
The rules were clear: One man can live when the other can’t stand
I did at least double the damage, but this trip’ll be the death of me
The anguish ahead of me can’t begin until I vanquish this enemy
Kept my breathing slow and steady, conserving my energy
This dead weight I’m attached to has purposely tethered me
He’s certainly heavy (I think), it seems he serves as a remedy
My curious weapon leaks, I believe his blood turns to a recipe
Burn his skin for my meat, this beach certainly is discreet
The wind shifted due East as the birds all fled from the trees
Guess Heaven just sneezed; The path I-choose knows no bounds
Pebbles cutting my feet? Having shoes would just slow me down
Plasma soaked the ground, I failed to extract one nail I used
No one follows in your footsteps when a blood trail will do
Entrails consumed; Mmm, I sure wish I stashed some food
But our epic battle proved I’d hear his death rattle soon
The sky darkened fast, I hearkened back to my passive youth
We put on acts to fool the masses, staying still like statues too
People gasped, we’d all laugh when we broke the news
Who could assume years later it would be my go-to move?
So I remove the nail from my thumb, plant my foot in the mud
Yanked my tattered shirt free… then I shook and got up
The man was stunned, “I thought you were dead” he loudly uttered
I plunged the nail through his head, in one side and out the other
Started drinking his blood, his body of water dripping a bit
He quivered and spit, he was taken a back like an Indian gives
But I thanked him for dragging me along on this quick little trip
Cuz I see a blue bayou in the distance…

And now I’m licking my lips...

Master Rock's out. Anyone else want to take a shot at this? Pretty cool topic...

I'm not looking for a no-show win.

Ahem.

*Clears throat*

With the Covid-19 coronavirus spreading
it was thought most were likely to suffer mild infections.
They said “A high percentage of patients stand to survive,”
but we’re finding seven months on, all of that was a lie.
The pandemics rise proved the economies fall
businesses crashed overnight, leaving no jobs for the poor.
Food stocks are in short supply but no one listened
so now were locking our doors to keep our social distance.
The homes we live in are open prisons on every city corner
and quickly thought of as little more than bricks and mortar.
This is more than strictly hoarding all the cans on a shelf
it’s kill in order to survive — with every man for themselves.
Scavengers selfishly scour the perimeter to talk in private
of me having a beltin’ barbecue, with ‘em all invited!
Before this virus most of them couldn’t stand me either
but all the nights in isolation must have given ‘em cabin fever.
“We’ll stand two meters apart,” I lied through my teeth.
“but if I catch you sneezing, you’re gone!” Hey, a guy has to eat.
I fire up the Beefeater 3000 and wait for them to arrive
applying a seasoning of all the pepper I can desperately find.
I set them aside a couple plates so all was looking legit
hungry as shit, but well.. what’s a couple of ribs for a couple of ribs?
It was double or quits, I stood at a distance to keep an eye
on the voluptuous victims eating while that first sneeze arrives!
I see the quietly building tickle as their noses start to twitch
their teary eyes were clearly signs of a closely guarded sniff!
Do you know hard it is waiting for someone to sneeze
when they won’t regardless since they know just where it leads!?
When one interrupted proceedings with an “Atchoo!” spat in my face
I struck him immediately -
Ending it the same way this all began... with a bat to the face.

Universe- always enjoy your pieces. The second half was super cool and I liked how you ended it. The whole tone changed and I think you stood sharply by the details of the picture throughout. Lol @ the Indian giver line.

Clut- loved how you stepped up unexpectedly for this battle. This is only the second piece I’ve read from you but I really enjoyed your take on it. Your creativity is heavily present throughout. Though I honestly found your verse more interesting to read through, I have to edge it to Universe for his consistency to details of the picture and also just a more compact verse in general, line for line

It's dope that Clutbuck stepped up for this battle short notice but it's going to be really confusing when it comes to standings and what not but oh well that's not for me to worry about lol

Universe had a really dope verse, loved how it kept the picture engaged and at the same time felt really meta especially with the Blue Bayou stuff at the end, but the closing few bars were some of my favorite. Flow tied it all together well and the imagery is definitely dope hate to echo what you told me but it is true for you as well, your words paint portraits.

Clutbuck props on writing too quality verses this week, i liked you using a current event here and having a good spin on the topic, but i think you were just overpowered here. Universe was at the top of his game and dropped a really good verse which would be hard to top even on a full week, still liked your overall narrative and vocab choices, good work here but Uni wins.

im sorry but the last thing i wanted to read a topical verse about was the coronavirus. its literally all i see and hear about all fucking day and im gonna be honest, i started this verse and rolled my eyes. its at the forefront of everybody's brain right now so naturally a premise like this just kind of feels obvious and sort of loses its impact as a result. yes, it was extremely well written, and yes you're technically proficient and have all the tools in your arsenal to mastermind a work. it was, for what its worth, a cool take on the picture. cannibal zombie survivalist thriller. but i hated, hated the covid angle.
universe had a well paced, fairly well written combat narrative that executed exactly how it was planned to. some redundant phrasing and uninteresting word choices kind of took me out momentarily but it was definitely engaging in it's action sequences. are... you jesus? am i getting that right? i dont know if i was reading into the "nails" thing too close or what. jesus' revenge is a pretty dope way to use this topic if so. both of you guys were talking about cannibalism so thats kinda interesting as well. vote
