I think they should be. My tax money pays for the program, I don't want pay for other people's drugs when I got my own to buy. Union=no drug test for me.

The taxpayer cost of drug testing that many people on a regular basis would be ridiculous, far exceeding the amount of money denied to the people who failed.

And the poor populations of Colorado and Washington would skyrocket because they have legalized marijuana. That would lead to a backlash against pro-marijuana legislation.

yeah Serpent brings up a good point, I'm really not too familiar with the economics of it all but it sounds pretty unfeasible in practice.

In theory, however, I think an appropriate caveat would be to have the option of welfare money for living expenses (EBT, food stamps, etc) if drug free, and if positive for hard drugs (class 1? I think, idk) then that money is used for rehab purposes.

it's a tough balance, sympathy for the individual but pragmatism for the nation as a whole.

I legitimately have no idea what this means. I just know there are different drug classifications, with "street drugs" being considered the worst/most dangerous. Though as I recall, those classifications themselves were pretty awful.
