Open Mic Supermag: Long Overdue Edition
Open Mic Magazine Long Overdue Edition [IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING HOF/ VOTM] The HOF Nom thread shall be replaced with 'Verse of the Month' Nom thread. Any nominated piece automatically gets paneled for HOF. The piece with the most nominations automatically gets VOTM. If there's a tie, it's paneled to determine VOTM. Panels will be determined by those in charge of the Open Mic and general topical portions of the site. These changes will decrease the load on moderators with regards to finding time to appoint panel members & hound them for verdicts. Furthermore, more recognition will be brought towards those who actively participate and post read-worthy content. With these changes, we hope to reintroduce accomplishments to the topical community without forfeiting the prestige of the OM HOF, or making it so that the community is unwilling to nominate any verse due to exceedingly high standards. To summarize: the VOTM thread is where you nominate what you believe is one of the best writings of the month, the most nominated verse will be awarded a VOTM accomplishment AND considered for HOF via panel State of the O.M. Address [Introduction] Well my friends, here we are. At the start of writing this magazine, it has been 263,520 minutes since the last Open Mic Review magazine was left. For those interested, here is a link. October 2014 Review [by zygote] So to say that it has 'been a minute' since the last magazine would be quite the understatement. This magazine, though perhaps not feature-rich, seeks to give credit where credit is due for many of Netcees finest writers. In fact, I think that the [formerly deplorable] state of the OM has allowed for a very interesting dynamic to develop amongst its writers. For instance- some trends have emerged, others have died out, and others still have evolved into entirely new creations. While in some ways, this forum has languished, in others it has grown immensely. It is with this idea in mind that we dive into the Reincarnation of the Open Mic- with an open-ended analysis of it's comings and goings. [Trends] Whatever Happened to Swag and Flow? While it would not be accurate to say that this style of writing has died out, it certainly has experienced a severe decline in popularity. The disappearance of writers such as @Neighbor, @dull boy, @beretta, @Nigma, and @ill nik-A means a sudden dearth in swaggage production. Furthermore, writers who had previously been following suit have found other outlets for their creativity. It has been a long time since @Fig, @oats murkel, @Allen Knight, or @Zen have tested the waters with a flex verse. However, a few staunch stalwarts of the style hang around in the shadows. @CopyPat, @Genocide and @big baby still drop pieces with flex-ish airs at the very least. I suppose that the BA's S&F title and the likes of @Chyeahhh Guevara had kept the style going for quite some time, ushering in both controversy and constant front page attention. Variations on a Theme One of my favorite new trends in the Open Mic- a regular posts a killer drop with a powerful title, and several others post quasi-related pieces entailing the same material, and often referencing one another ubiquitously. This brings a sense of life & dynamicism into the Open Mic where the lack of detailed, exploratory feedback has become noticeably apparent. Some notable examples: Yarnish, Varnish, Tarnish, Garnish 8 am, 6 am, 12 am Death of the Collab Verse This trend perhaps saddens me the most. While our writers continue to grow and develop individually, the Open Mic had seen a fantastic boom where very unique and different writers regularly collaborated on verses, producing a wide range of elaborately descriptive & tangentially thematic works that often pushed the boundaries of readers' perceptions and sense of wonder. It seems that perhaps a lack of motivation or activity has largely contributed to this drought of interwriter communication. Rebirth of Write Week! This is not necessarily a trend, rather a piece of news: write weeks will be coming back, just in time for the summer months! [Quotient Quotables] lmao u like that title? ibet u do bish This section will simply be a smattering of notable lines from the MASSIVE number of verses overlooked since October with a little blurb as to why it was noticeable. All quote-links have been preserved, feel free to jump to the verse & read in depth by clicking the arrow next to the writer's username. Quote:

Sorry to all that as I write these I am running out of descriptors, but I want to highlight some of the quality writing of the past few months so that a deeper look can be applied to future editions of the mag- issued on a bimonthly basis. Quote:

Asides from yours truly getting back into modship, here's just a quick snapshot of what is going on in the other corners of the site: AOWL Playoffs Enters the FINALS Dead man and NYCSPITZ clash in a real nail-biter! http://www.netcees.org/showthread.ph...833#post479833 Cashius Champs the NBL facing him this week is young upstart Sharp 9, make sure to check in and cast a vote. http://www.netcees.org/forumdisplay.php?f=205 [Outrospection] Though this edition focused largely on highlighting particular parts of popular writers' verses, future magazines will be able to focus in on the minutiae of the OM's goings-on. I hope to accommodate interviews and Q&As, OM writers' editorial pieces, a detailed collab section, a special section where one standout verse is given an in-depth breakdown by one or more writers skilled in the art of feed. The next magazine is slated for publication on June 14th. Please remember to vote for the VOTM!!!
