Topical leagues or tournies have a BIG PROBLEM.
No-shows, and lack of voting.

I don't know if there's a miracle fix for those things. I just know that when you start with 8 or 16 of 32 it all looks so grand then you realize there's more than half of the contests with no-shows... people advancing without really facing a competitor...then the battles where both show don't get any votes.

It's kind of turned me off from joining and writing. That being said, I might join the next one lol.

People are actively involved in the GWL... they know they have a battle next week and want people to read and vote on their current pieces as well. Unless there's something in it for THEM, people will generally be apathetic and take the easy way out and do, Well... nothing.

Lure them back with positive rep bonuses and/or the ability to pick your opponent the first week in GWL season 2, etc. Also, if you think this is bad... wait until the finals. I can't vote on a Lars battle so it will be even worse...
