Cool beans. @Split you ain't never send that extra stuff for the mag. I'll just start working on next weeks midseason edition. Apologies to all participants, though, those votes last week were ridic so I guess we're all even now. Next weeks mag will be the best of the season. Guaranteed.

I just realized I had forgot the championship & contender match predictions. Those will both be dope battles. Good luck to y'all. Here is the other match ups & predictions.
Witty (1-2) VS. nO goOd! (0-0) What's the deal?: As the season continues to progress deeper & deeper, the wave of newcomers still runs strong. This week, nO goOd! is making his debut, facing off against Witty, who has been a disappointment this season thus far (2 no shows) and is looking to redeem himself. Who wins?: The past two times Witty has no showed, I believe I predicted him to win the said match. After Cake no showed him week 1, Witty could easily have been 3-0 at this point because he is that skilled of a writer. But the lack of inspiration or procrasinating has been his Achilles heel. nO goOd! is making his first appearance & a goOd! showing here would be a big plus for him to kick things off. Do I go with Wittman? Or the new guy? If you're still not motivated Witty, here is some added fuel to the fire. PREDICTION: Witty cruises to victory, 7-0. Mac (1-1) VS. patrown (0-1) What's the deal?: patrown's debut ended in defeat last week, a 5-1 loss to ZD while Mac was dealt a knockout by c.d.m. Both look to get in the win column this week. Who wins?: patrown's verse last week didn't really show anything promising & like most, he probably struggled finding inspiration. Mac on the other hand dropped a good piece but unfortunately for him, Veritas was just too good. I haven't really got a chance to peep much from these two & only time will tell. From the little I've seen, I say patrown drops a better verse than last weeks disaster but Mac comes through to earn his second victory of the season. PREDICTION: Mac packs a better punch here, 6-2. ZeeDee (1-0) VS. Camp Bell (1-2) What's the deal?: ZD made a statement in his debut, blowing past patrown, 5-1. Enters this weeks opponent, Camp Bell, coming off a one week hiatus, and looks to even out his win-loss record. Who wins?: ZD looks like a pretty strong competitor & Camp Bell may have his work cut out for him this week. Then again, that Open Mic drop he posted during his hiatus was bananas & displayed Camp at his best (or could just be getting there). He is great with rhyming schemes which could spell trouble for ZD, who seemed to lack a bit with that last week, though storytelling wise, he looks solid. I'm going to roll the dice here. It shows 7. Meaning this will go down to the wire. PREDICTION: Camp Bell edges a hard fought match, 7-5. pohfig (3-1) VS. Pryde (0-1) What's the deal?: pohfig loss a close one to Frank in AOWL's first championship of the season, 4-2, disappointing due to the lack of votes given, and who knows what would've happened. This week, Pryde is his opponent, who took a huge 7-0 knockout blow from Adonis. Who wins?: pohfig went through a gauntlet the first 4 weeks of this season & damn near survived it without a scratch. He is a dangerous opponent to any writer he faces & with the general topics coming back into play, he looks to get back on the winning side of things. Pryde probably was shaking some rust off the ol' pen & pad last week & will really need to be ready for this match. Barring that poh somehow no shows, which I highly doubt, this will probably be another KO, but who knows? PREDICTION: pohfig gets back in the title picture, 9-0. c.d.m. (1-3) VS. IAmBenT (1-0) What's the deal?: Veritas won his first match of the season last week, a solid 5-0 victory over Mac. Can he make it two in a row? IAmBent won his first match of the season over his crewmate, Ink, an impressive 5-2 win. Who wins?: If there is one person this season who has been swinging & fighting & putting in work every week, it has been c.d.m. You'd think after an 0-3 start someone would just quit or take some time off, but in V's case, it only made him that much hungrier for the next opponent (I mean who calls out dead man right after taking an L from him?). The Mastermind is a threat. IAmBenT is new to me & it will take some time to see his skills fully. A 2-0 start would be a plus. I'm just more certain that Veritas will pull off another mind fuck & a second win in a row. PREDICTION: c.d.m. gets win #2, 7-3. bleak (0-2) VS. Ink (0-1) What's the deal?: The deal is someone is leaving this match without a win. Or both if no shows take place (doubt it). bleak loss a comeback in votes match to The Zenmaster last week, while Ink loss to his crewmate IAmBenT, 5-2. Who wins?: This will be a close one. bleak join the action again with a challenge against Zen & despite losing, put up a valiant fight. Ink match up leaned more towards one side and now he is either looking at his first win or back-to-back losses to start his season. So who gets the win? First thought is Ink coming through with a solid piece and getting the win, which would make bleak 0-3.... BUT, I get the feeling bleak is not looking to even get to that point. It will go back and forth, but B will pull it off. PREDICTION: bleak wins a squeaker, 6-4. SLEEPER MATCH OF THE WEEK!!!!! Red glare (2-1) VS. Zenland (2-2) What's the deal?: Red glare edged out The Vator, 4-3, in a very close & back & forth match. The Zenmaster got back on the winning side of things, pulling off a 5-3 win over challenger bleak. Who wins?: This is the Sleeper Match of the Week. I'm expecting a throwdown here. Red looks to be getting that engine going & a win here could put him in first place in the Blue division, barring a Mike Wrecka loss this week. The Zenmaster's division is up in the air, with Vator losing back to back weeks & who knows exactly how Kuja will do. This would be a key victory for Zen. He's been improving every match. That continues here, but Red will make his move up the ladder a bit more. PREDICTION: Red glare wins, 7-4. TYSON (1-2) VS. Kuja (2-1) What's the deal?: Kuja was once again no showed this season & is looking to finally compete in a match where votes are involved. This will be his week as he faces off against TYSON, who suffered a shocking, 4-2 loss against Vinzr. Who wins?: TYSON has all the talent to be one of the top tier writers in this league & last weeks loss was definitely a step back. He has got to be focused coming into this match up. But who's to say that Kuja is not as focused? Every match this season has been plagued by no show results (one being his own doing) & I'm certain he is thinking this is his first chance to receive some critique & display his writing skills. Both of these competitors are risers & this could easily be BOTW if both really bring it. A win for Kuja would put him in sole possession of first place in his division, while TYSON could also make some movements up with a victory as well. This is a hard choice here. Kuja will put together a nice story. I see TYSON doing THAT and THEN some. PREDICTION: TYSON pulls off a thriller, 8-5. UPSET OF THE WEEK!!!!! Mike Wrecka (AOWL #1 CONTENDER) (3-1) VS. Adonis (1-0) What's the deal?: Adonis dished a knockout blow in his debut last week over Pryde, 7-0, and looks like a force to be reckoned with. Mike Wrecka won by no show over dead man. Who wins?: Mike is slowly making his way to the top & 3 straight victories takes you a long way. With key competitors signing out & some other key losses, Wrecka has earned the #1 contender status & looks to participate in a title match soon. Motivation will be key here. He is guaranteed a title shot, win or lose. Adonis will be lurking. He dropped a well rounded piece last week & the skillset is apparent. And a victory over the #1 contender wouldn't look to bad on the resume. Mike has started the season off well. Sucks that his match with dead man didn't go down. Would've been a great measuring stick. Because this week, I see Mike getting upsetted. Or this prediction may just give him the fire to make it 4 in a row. PREDICTION: Adonis makes statement, 8-3. |

patrown vs. ZeeDee
Two fresh faces in this battle, and two contrasting approaches. The beat was "Battlecry" by Nujabes, an atmospheric and vibed-out instrumental rendition of Samurai Champloo's theme song. What was interesting to me about both verses was how polar they were... ZeeDee had an epic of a verse, rough around the edges but exhibiting instances of brilliance. The opening stanza was very much on point, then it seemed to lose a bit of momentum. Voters pointed out the complex nature of his verse both aided and deterred him this week.. sometimes he tripped up, and sometimes he produced some very nicely worded quips. Patrown had a very short verse, and refreshingly abstract in comparison. It felt like an excerpt from a longer work. It too showed potential.. it wasn't as on point as ZeeDee's was in terms of rhyming and other mechanics, but had the verse been fleshed out more this would have been a very close battle. Both verses drew on the cyclical and monotonous feel of the topic to create a grim/ unsettling story, but this week ZeeDee took it 5-1 with a more satisfying finished product. Red Glare vs. Innovator Two heads from Scripted Visions meeting for the first time in the AOWL. Their topic was "Art of Facts" by Artifacts, which is a thin, light melody played over a rustic backbeat. Both competitors seemed to key up verses. Red Glare's verse was a short delve into a senseless murder.. it was poetic and a little bit confusing... like one of those maps you see at a detective's desk with pins and strings and photos and you don't quite see how it's connected until the detective speaks, then it's painfully obvious. The flow was neato and there were some intriguing metaphors that were perhaps too abstract for the reader. Imagery was nice as well. Innovator had good mechanics, nice flow- he wrote a flex which definitely doesn't seem to be his usual style. Most of the votes it received were on account of feeling more complete than Red Glare's. Ultimately, Red Glare won in a very tight one-vote-battle because of richer content. IamBenT vs.Ink A clash of incoming RM writers. For their battle, the topic was the instrumental to "Hell on Earth" by Mobb Deep, almost like a dirge or somethin interlaced with rap percussion. One of the best matchups of the week. IamBenT had an awesome rhyme scheme, great portrayal of emotion and imo had one of the coolest storylines of the week. I was really satisfied when it came full circle. He had some awkward word choice that was swept under the rug by the effectiveness of his lines as well as his smooth delivery. Ink wrote a Zygote-esque topical about the life of a North Korean child, and was a really dope close-up on the relativity of life and death on a personal and global level. Ink's rhyming was a half-step behind BenT's, but was by no means lacking. Ink's strength is his content, and unfortunately for him IamBenT arguably matched him on that plane and outmatched him lyrically. This was an incredibly close battle, IamBenT took it. Vinzr vs. Tyson Both of these battlers were on streaks going into this battle. Instrumental was "Bring Back Pluto", produced by Blockhead I believe, a funky and progressive beat with a lot of potential and wiggle room. Both had very short verses. Vinzr had a tale about outlaws. Dude's got a lot of potential: however short his verses are they're always carefully constructed. Tyson went for imagery and a sort of preachy overtone, and people resonated with Vinzr more overall, taking it in a close one Mac vs. c.d.m. Veritas faces a newbie this week, and used the opportunity to continue developing and maturing his delivery and rhyming. It was laden with metaphors and symbolism, and had the imagery to tie it together. Mac wrote about struggling to connect with a lover. It wasn't a bad drop and had some standout lines, but was ultimately outmatched by Veritas this week in a shutout. Bleak vs. ZenLand For DJ Honda's "Respiration" both competitors wrote about struggles of different sorts. Zen showed he is a force to be reckoned with in upcoming weeks. Multis abound and a great flow, despite not knowing the song. He wrote about our debate about capitalism in America. It came off a little rant-y but was nicely executed. Bleak appeared to key something up for his match, and it was impressive for a story that lacked depth.. all the elements were htere but voters didn't take as much away from his attempt as Zenlands, and Zen won 5-3 Adonis vs. Pryde Both competitors got lucky with one helluva banger, "Backseat Freestyle" by Kendrick. Both wrote flexes, this was my personal favorite matchup Adonis really murdered this verse with smooth as fuck schemes, switches, and on point multis that definitely flowed to the beat. it had that element of realness that most flexes lack. Pryde had very very similar schemes to Kendrick, and brought in Netcees and AOB references (always risky tbh) but still produced some good quotes. Voters noticed that Adonis's complexity paid off, he won 7-0 NO SHOW LOVE Kuja was no-showed by Boredom over the instrumental to "Scapegoat" by Atmosphere, one of my favorite beats to write to. Though it was short, it was also sweet- Kuja really pulled off short lines and shorter schemes with a complex and minimalistic structure. Woulda been a cool battle, IMO. For me the ending was the highlight, really hit on a hi note
