it's tough, not a robbery but I can see people saying Dillashaw won. I had Cruz with the first 3 rounds, Dillashaw with 4 and 5. Super close, though. both judges who had it 49-46 are dumb imo

Cruz's attitude is so obnoxious though. He's real life Dennis from Always Sunny. The desk interview he just gave on FS1 was so fucking childish.

I didn't see it cuz I have students now, but I don't doubt it. He's obnoxious, but at least he's honest about it. I prefer characters to librarians.

Ayo. That decision is fucked. Cruz looked otherworldly with his defence - but you don't win a fight by dodging punches. I still think Dillashaw landed more significant shots even if at a lower percentage than usual for him - and the leg kicks and knees on the cage seemed to take a toll on Cruz. It was a close fight, but close in Dillashaw's favour almost completely. I have no idea how Cruz wins 4 rounds in this fight - I can easily see how he lost 4 rounds though. Them scorecards are fucked up - and I'm not buying that "it was just that close" shit. The UFC must really need a superstar pretty bad. And I say all this as a Cruz fan.

Bottom line. Cruz frustrated Dillashaw, but never really capitalized on it, imo.

@Diode @quaker oats break me off with some of that sensei shit.

here's how I took it. I gave first 3 to Cruz, last 2 to Dillashaw. How I saw it, most of Dillashaw's early strikes were not really landing. What I mean is, they were either blocked, or Cruz was moving away when they landed and they didn't do much. I think that changed in the championship rounds though. Cruz was pot-shotting well, and even though he's not a heavy hitter, he was landing the cleaner shots and dictating the pace of the fight, even as the non-aggressor. I just felt his counterpunching was more effective than Dillashaw's pressure fighting. Plus, he got the better of the few grappling exchanges.

That being said, I only watched it once, live. A lot of analysts whom I respect had it for Dillashaw, even as much as 49-46. But on my first watch, I felt like Cruz got the better of the exchanges. I'll def rewatch it once it's on FightPass and see how I feel about it. I do think it was close as fuck though. Too close to be considered a robbery.

I thought Pettis won too. And I'm an Alvarez fan, just not when he fights like that.

a lot of people thought Pettis won - including one of the judges. The swing round was that first round, where Alvarez pressed him against the fence for a lot of the time, but he didn't do any meaningful damage and Pettis cracked him with body shots every time he came in. Rd. 2 was clear Pettis, rd. 3 was clearly Alvarez and the most dominant round of the fight. It should have been 5 rounds tbh.

Def shoulda been 5. I couldnt believe they were doing it as 3.

All Alvarez did was wall n stall in the first and second. He landed nothing meaningful and had no submission attempts. Pettis was hitting Alvarez quite a bit.

Alvarez controlled the entire fight and didn't allow Pettis to do anything besides sone body shots. Completely took him out of the fight he wanted to fight. Clearly one sided.

Alvarez did nothing

Those weak little take downs

I'd never pay to watch that bore fight

forcing a stalemate =/= controlling the fight.

push a man up against a fence and doing little else is hardly winning. i can see the decision for alvarez (i've seen worse), thought pettis won by a sliver.

also thought dillashaw edged cruz, and i say that with a clear cruz bias. i saw it as close, and thought the split would have to be dillashaw's with those scores but idk. would need to rewatch. cruz fought a great fight all things considered, mad respect.

Yes it does when Pettis had zero answers for his wrestling. Casual fans
