1-2 Punch League Mid-Season Report [murda sho Wins]
The 1-2 Punch League Mid-Season Report brought to you by BROKE LESNAR Introduction First allow me to thank everybody for sticking with the league. We've seemingly lost 2 brilliant mods in @Knucklehead and @Meth but despite their absence have managed to keep activity high. The voter participation is to be commended, as is the spirited level of competition we've seen on a weekly basis. Going into this mag not once did I intend on wowing any of you, therefore, this will most likely be the worst piece of shit mag that you've read in a long time. RB's 1-2 Punch League mags have beautifully done graphics that are captivating and make you feel like you belong there. I didn't do none of that shit. You're welcome. Week 1 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
Windu came into the league virtually unknown and made sure to properly introduce himself. Although his style is a throwback to similar ones of yesteryear, it doesn't negate the fact that his creativity is pretty damn impressive. In this instance he surpised an unsuspecting Sharp Nine and came away with a much deserved win. Week 1 BOTW Quote:
Orc signed in for one battle and was matched up against a guy that is no stranger to the 1-2 Punch League, Beyond. Beyond is a juggernaut in 1-2 punch battles, rivaled only by Neighbor, Blue Bayou, Destroyer, and Orc imo. So this battle was easily the most anticipated of the week. Beyond ended up NS'ing but that didn't stop Orc from dropping the BOTW. It was a dope personal uniquely wrapped in creativity and delivered with much effect. Week 2 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
In week 2 Amen found himself battling Malachi. He was determined to shake off the loss to Allen Knight in the previous week and unloaded on Malachi with a vengeance. Amen used a clever np and executed the concept admirably. Week 2 BOTW Quote:
RB has many talented battlers that float between their site and NC. Amen and KnowP are two of them, so its no big shock to see them both receiving honors for their bars. KnowP quickly disposed of Doug Funny with a humorous 3-line bar that hit rather well and with it earned BOTW. Last edited by BROKE LESNAR; 09-28-2014 at 02:38 AM. |

Week 3 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
Roar had Blanco Bishop this week and used a np/chess reference to secure the win. While one can probably say that chess references on Blanco are redundant, what really helped Roar overcome BB was the entire package. Solid concept with great build-up and even better payoff. Not bad at all. Week 3 BOTW Quote:
Much like the aforementioned chess reference, the 'go for BROKE" np that Swerve dropped against me made me cringe. Not that the bar was low-quality or anything, bc it wasn't, but due to the fact I have seen and used that phrase so many times. What really made this bar special was the personal. Overlooking the cliched np, the concept was fresh and flipped very nicely. I remember reading this and thinking just how fierce and polished it was in execution (similar to the bar in my signature). Easily the BOTW.

Week 4 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
What made this bar so signficant was the backstory that accompanied it. At this point it was Destroyer vs. Swerve in the champ match and Swerve was overly confident that he would be victorious. Destroyer had a fair amount of pressure to deliver and he responded aggressively. Using a np that isn't necessarily groundbreaking, he constructed a bar that was fueled by a hilarious concept and a healthy setup reinforced with a strong finish. Week 4 BOTW Quote:
There were quite a few bars in week 4 that resonated well with the voters. Alot of outstanding punches to choose from. I selected Camp's bar against Vivid bc this was the original Vivian Banks line before others started sprouting up. Very reminiscent of Dominate's Jack N Jill bar. This np was second to none. Camp really stepped his game up and brought a sensational np and reference to the table. His creativity resulted in this punch being BOTW. Last edited by BROKE LESNAR; 09-28-2014 at 02:37 AM. |

Week 5 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
Kay is another RB guy who came over to join our league. I first saw him in RB's 1-2 Punch league, or in NC BA, idk. He's kinda raw. Kay has the tendency to drop fire and this bar is no exception. His roar shacks np on Roar was undoubtedly inventive. Knowing just how good Roar has been this season, for Kay to knock him off is very telling. Week 5 BOTW Quote:
If I'm not mistaken, this is Muff's first appearance in the league as he was a NS replacement for Defiant. Meth sanctioned it and his opponent King Ra approved. Unbeknownst to King Ra, Muff would provide one of my favorite bars all season. The wp here was fucking aces and one of the smoothest 3-line bars I've ever read. Add on the fact the concept was roflz and it's hard to front on this being BOTW. Last edited by BROKE LESNAR; 09-28-2014 at 02:36 AM. |

Week 6 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
When I initially read this bar from Jilti I thought the wp was a tadbit forced and my vote echoed that sentiment, but now having gone back and experienced it for a second time, I still think it's a tadbit forced and realize I was right and everybody else was wrong. J/k. Well not entirely. But I did think this particular bar had a swell concept and was executed satisfactorily. If I put aside the technical nuances, there really isn't an argument to make in regards of this not being the runner-up BOTW. All-around it was a dandy effort. Week 6 BOTW Quote:
This week's BOTW comes courtesy of Meth, who used this bar to secure a convincing win over Unfukwitable. The concept he used was exemplary, far more superior than Unfuk's and doubly entertaining. It's strange bc irl a cpl days before Veritas posted that thread, I was involved in one of those nostalgic conversations adults have when reminiscing over the past and we were discussing those fantasy books that used to have the A/B chapters. Meth capitalized on that coincidence and woo'ed me over with a stellar outing to take home BOTW honors. Last edited by BROKE LESNAR; 09-28-2014 at 02:36 AM. |

Earlier I said that Muff's 3-line bar was one of the best all season and this incredible bar by Windu deserves the same distinction. The np and reference were both illy and brought some fucking pain to Rude Boy. Whether you appreciate his style or not, you can't say that the man isn't gifted with ingenuity. Week 8 Runner-Up BOTW Quote:
Originally when I checked Jilti's battle with Camp, all I saw was that Training, Camp np and it instantly turned me off bc of how obvious it was. Looking back I can admit that it was a rather harsh indictment. The meat of this bar is the personal Jil used. It was structured flawlessly and had tremendous payoff. Great stuff here. Week 8 BOTW Quote:
At first glance it's easy to see this bar and have no idea what's happening. But if you look closer you will see some brilliant creativity manifest itself. Certain's opponent was Unfukwitable this week, and if you add a C and an H to his name you have Unfuckwithable. See what he did there? Excellent way to tie in the C-H with AMPED. This is the BOTW and rightfully so.

I absolutely enjoyed Camp's flip on the intro video I posted in his battle with Meth. It's really disheartening that Meth ended up NS'ing as this week's matchup had the potential to be a notable sleeper. Camp had crisp delivery and inventiveness working in his favor. Week 9 BOTW Quote:
Destroyer found himself in a Contendership match this week opposite Certain. This was one of my favorite battles as these are 2 of the best in the league. Destroyer has already champed the league once before this season and used a nice concept to build around an invigorating np and snuff Certain's momentum to advance to the championship match. Week 10 Predictions Quote:
Wordz AhGod vs. Certain Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says On paper, this is one of my favorite matchups this season. WAG is a legitimate powerhouse with the potential to drop ego-shattering haymakers. Certain is every bit the contender WAG is and if he takes this battle seriously then I can see him emerging triumphant with a clever np and his usual arrogant swag. However, I'm going with WAG on this one. Idk if it's the fact Certain has outright stated he doesn't know WAG or that he's already posted a bar expressing his disinterest in battling him, but something tells me Certain doesn't really know too much ab WAG and it seems as if he's disinterested in battling him. Packed Graves vs. Jilti Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says This is another awesome matchup with PG and Jil, two highly-talented prospects, going head to head for the first time this season. While they are both somewhat evenly matched, I give the slight advantage to PG as he is just a bit further along with his progression than Jilti. PG has excelled in the RB 1-2 Punch Leagues so I don't see him having too much difficulty transitioning over here. If PG wins, he picks up some much needed momentum to help propel him to the top ranks. If Jilti wins, he rebounds from a tough loss in the championship last week and stays in the title picture. Muff vs. Kin Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says Both of these guys are articulate writers who can humble any opponent with original concepts and witticism. It's hard to predict the outcome bc I think it can go either way. It all depends on how fresh of an angle they go with and how impactful their bars come off. If their performance thus far in the season is any marker for the quality of this battle, then we should be in for a fine showing. Tomb vs. TheMuzzl3 Quote:
BROKE says Last week Tomb had to contend with PG and came away on the losing end. This week I have him recovering from that loss with a very important win over TheMuzzl3 to boost his confidence. While TheMuzzl3 isn't the worst textcee I've ever seen, he still needs to go through the hazing phase and deal with the losses. Each loss will make him more determined and show him what he needs to do to up his game. He seems like an intelligent gentleman so it shouldn't take too long for him to learn from his mistakes. If they decide to make this a hobby, whatever effort these two both put in will reward them twice over in the months to come. Defiant vs. Unfukwitable Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says We have a potential sleeper right here with both of these competitors being nearly identical to one another. Unfuk reminds me of Defiant on his best days, so if he drops lackluster he could catch alot of wreck. While I selected Unfuk to win, it wouldn't shock me to see Defiant slip by him in a hotly-contested battle. Tic Tac vs. murda sho Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says This is the most anticipated matchup aside from the Contendership/Championship bouts. Both Tic and MS are playing havoc with their competition across NC and RB. They have a ton of momentum and are due to collide explosively. We're fortunate to see that collision happen right here in Week 10. Beans vs. Windu Tuako Quote:
BROKE says Beans has shown great improvement both here and in the Newbie Tournament. I think we will see a better offering from him this week now that he knows which areas of his text battling needs improvement. Windu is one of my darkhorses for the season and is a viable threat for anyone. I have Windu taking it but it all depends on whether he shows and if he does how much effort he put into his bar. YDK vs. Strikta Quote:
BROKE says I know I have Strikta winning this but I have a feeling he will most likely NS, or if he does drop it will be something quick and not entirely thought out. YDK has a champion mentality and the only thing left for him to do at this point is to become champion. For this reason I'm going to abruptly switch my prediction and give YDK the nod. Camp Bell vs. Blanco Bishop Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says These guys have been busting their ass off all season to get into the Contendership match. They've toiled and suffered a few losses here and there, but that just builds character. Suffice to say at this point in the season they have alot of character. They both have the heart and potential to outperform one another. I consider this a remarkable bout that will most assuredly set them apart from one another. BROKE LESNAR vs. Destroyer Quote:
Quote:
BROKE says Here we are again in the championship match trying to one-up each other. There isn't anybody I respect more than Destroyer on NC so for us to repeatedly be in this position is a great thing. This should be a spirited battle between 2 bad news bears. I thought Kin made a valiant effort with the First 48 wp. It read dead on something I would hear in a live acapella battle format and I enjoyed it. The murda show/First 48 connection has been done before but the concept and supporting material Kin used really opened it up to a unique interpretation. MS' bar was a great way to rebuttal it. It read fluidly and was pretty impactful with the commentary on First 48.
While the first two bars by both could go either way, the second set really decided the battle. Kin really shouldn't have went with a zip' em up/bags line as both of those used in that context have been used several times over. What helped cushion those flaws was the setup. It made me lol and definitely had that personal rebuttal feel that I envisioned when implementing the Rebuttal Option. You did exactly what I wanted you to do. You shifted into a personal tone and did it rather well. Same with MS. While his first bar was more of a rebuttal then his second, it still had the tone I wanted but at the same time it came off just as hard. Now, I've seen the Orkin wp/np before, but what differentiates this flip from Kins Zip Em Up/Bags flip was that MS did just get out of a battle where as it stands he is and will eventually win. So it was relevent tie-in and a reference used not to focus on Orc but on staggering Kin. It was used supportively and not directly. Overall this is what I wanted out of the Rebuttal Option. So congrats to both. Kin proved that going first isn't as big a handicap as some feared it would be. v-MS |

Great organization. Love how you didn't completely bad-mouth me.
I don't know if I wrote great lines (I had some good ones in my head and lost them), but I posted early VS Tomb b/c I'm confident with this matchup. |
