James Rodriguez was the same price as Di Maria. I know we agreed he was the best player at the WC @Certain but he's not as good as Di Maria. So my question, @Witty, would be why are people saying United overspent? Overspent for arguably Madrid's best player last year, a man who shone for Argentina, and also put in a Man of the Match performance in last years CL final? Maybe not.

@Certain yeah the loan system is weird, we bought him outright tho..the 16m is what both teams decided was a fair price for Liverpool to buy him out from the remainder of his contract at AC Milan. The longer left on the contract, the more you will have to pay. Loans are normally for when you just don't have room in your team for a player but still see him as someone who could make an impact in the future, so you send him to play for another team to keep him fit and sharp...most clubs still pay the players wages even if he is on loan at another club.

I definitely rate him as a player, but I don't think he is as good as the likes of Suarez, Ronaldo, etc. Gerrard put in a MoTM peformance in a CL final, and in the same season was the best midfielder in England and possibly the world imo but I would never have said he was worth that kind of money either because I think that should be reserved for the best of the best, I wouldn't put him (in his prime) or Di Maria in that bracket, tho very close. I also think Rodriguez was over priced btw, and I agree Di Maria justifies it more but I think United are being overpriced with every player they have bought simply because teams know they need the players. I still think 50m is a fair price for Di Maria, he is world class but 75m is too much imo.

I get what you're saying about Gerrard but in 2005 30 million pound was an enormous fee and that's what he was valued at. The player valuations the last 18 months has just been outrageous. I'm really excited to see Di Maria at United, though. Balotelli is going to be fun to watch too.

He'll definitely give United that outlet on the wide which they have desperately needed, they'll be more of a force going forward for sure...it's a good buy, a big name will give the fans confidence too and perhaps ease the pressure on Van Gaal who I rate as a top manager. Balotelli will go two ways...he will finally fulfill his potential to be one of the top strikers in the world, he's 24 and now is when he really should be starting to fire them in regularly...orrr he could self destruct and be sold for 10m next summer...either way it'll be interesting lol

If he does fulfill his potential tho, we will have a top quality front 3.
