My theory: Topical writers are more likely to stay active than battlers. There are more styles to explore, more directions to go. If you get sick of writing in one style, you just switch. In battling, there are at most three or four styles that have dominated. Plus, when you run out of punchlines, you're done.

Dispute it if you like text battlers but the main reason text has fallen down is textcees getting an ego and acting like spoilt little girls when they get voted against and lose battles.
