IMO both woody harrelson and mcconaughey gave the performance of thier careers on this series and I'm completely satisfied with the ending

rust returned to the all. im sure you interpreted it as heaven. its going to be interpreted differently depending on everyones belief systems. my belief personally is that any living thing has a piece of "energy" or what you would probably view as a "soul". we all have god within us. we think we are seperate beings/entities due to our human brain but at the base level there is the energy that gives us life and makes us different from a grain of sand. we are apart of the explosion of the all, we are the fire as it takes a piece of paper and turns it to ash.

i believe in the big bang and i believe all of everything that isnt nothing, is just the fire of the ALL.

but word the ending in my opinion, is his "energy/soul" returning to the "all" aka the fuel to to the fire of any living things existence.

but the meaning of the ending other than his talk about experiencing the void, is just him and marty talking about there being light in the universe/world. they did a good thing killing the main dude (ALLEGEDLY) so its a parallel to how the nights sky is filled with stars now, the world is a little brighter with that dude being gone.

dope show though, for sure. 10/10.

although rust shouldve died, you don't live through that. i know someone read that sentence and is like fucking MARTY GOT TOMAHAWKED IN THE CHEST, well duh but it was the right side of his chest, the human breastbone and ribs/whatever is pretty serious in that area, the tomahawk might not have hit anything vital but it couldve broken bones in his chest

rust on the other hand got a cool 6 inches of blade right to vital gut organs, WAS LIFTED UP BY THE WOUND, and the blade was jerked around inside him.

he would have died long before anyone showed up to save him, let alone make it to a coma. his own bile wouldve infected everything even if he didnt bleed to death, no surgery couldve saved him.

i mean i guess in magic tv land it couldve missed everything vital, but in real life your chance of living through that traumatic of a stab wound is like 1 in a trillion

Rust's finding religion/God/heaven (or a close approximation to it) isn't meant to be a message about the truth or validity of religion from the show's creators. All it signals or signifies is that Rust has changed; the show isn't saying if it's for the better. From the beginning this show has been a character sketch of the two cops and their relationship. The serial killer case was just a vehicle to showcase it in a long enough time period. All that occurred in the end was the final twist in their dynamic. If anything, Rust's existential moment was simply him realizing how much he really does care and/or is hurt about the death of his daughter and the sobering realization that his tough-atheist/apathetic attitude is wrong (maybe not wrong, but misguided and used as a front). Not necessarily because atheism is wrong but because he's been suppressing those emotions. Marty's character shed his smooth talking/coolest guy in the room persona when his family visited. Them walking off together just re-affirms that they're really the only two people who understand each other and those twists and their conversation about them just solidifies that. It's not a referendum on religion nor is it really about the case. It was a study of the two characters. To think this entire show's endgame was to be pro-religion (or pro-atheism for that matter) is missing the entire point, I would think.

Or not. Whatever.

I swear to fucking god this show is the shit! Even more so I think it resonates with me on a personal level so much because it's art imitating life. This type of shit is real and it's happened where I live.

i want to say i identify with rust on a mental level and thats why i like it, but that makes me feel corny.

i did find myself agreeing with everything he said in the entire show tho. it was like my subconscious speaking out loud

i remember when everyone was hyping matt mconahay or however you spell that BAD MOTHERFUCKERS last name. and i was like what? he hasnt been in anything good since that movie where sam jackson killed that dude in a courthouse for raping his daughter or whatevr

but he fucking beasted. and woody harrelson was dope too, fasho

i wonder if next season is a different location, i know its different main characters, but i wonder if they are going to be working the same case?

i dont even know how a second season could live up to the hype of the first tho. its perfect. should be over forever now.

word cake is correct in all of that

but rust didnt come to the realization that he was wrong in his beliefs at all, he didnt get to be with his daughter, he didnt get to be with his dad, he felt there presence. which still doesnt discredit him thinking life is meaningless. if anything it proves that it is, because beyond life there is the warmth of something you only get to know in life, in fleeting moments.

but thats just how i seen it at least

i for one could care less for there personal relationship, i mean it was dope obviously

but in the back of my mind i was secretly hoping for some secret society shit to be revealed involving paganism dating back to the gauls/celts and them uncovering it

i was much more concerned with the case and its details than either character, although both characters were enjoyable, rust much more so imo but i identify with the weirdo hermit with a mattress on his floor much more than a family man/ladies man

Yo, I ain't even sure that was a throwing axe Marty got hit with, I think that nigga got hit with a claw hammer or some shit.

If you're looking for any closure in this season, I think what resonates is that these were 2 very flawed men but they were dedicated to this case. That is what endeared them to the audience, we are all flawed but have our moments.

The ending was the true redemption of both cops. Marty realized his took his family for granted and he finally looked truly happy when they were all back in the room together.

Rust had an epiphany. He probably developed alot of his views on life based upon his loss. Therefore, he lived a life without spiritual fulfillment. For him to experience something supernatural like that, something that showed he had some unexplainable connection to his daughter was vital to his redemption. A nice touch.

Y'all need to peep McCaughnahay, Matthew in the movie "Mud".

My bros, do you even xbmc tho?
