I suggest you read some of the work by Max Tegmark, for a more conceptual, mathematical approach to systemic forms of alteration, chaos and entropy.

Good luck with the maths, I didn't get most of it. I agree with his general idea that "Our external physical reality is a mathematical structure." I tend to research different theories, and his stood out due to it's relation with the anthropic principle. Other theories/ideas you should checkout; Robert Lanza's Biocentrism, John Wheeler's It from Bit and Chris Langan's Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe (CTMU).
