This is inaccurate and a common fallacy that needs correcting. There is a line you can cross of being overly complex and lose the audience, but writing to the lowest common denominator would be an unfortunate habit to fall into.

That was well said . And I agree . But you can’t blame a person for not being into the same niche interests the author of the punchline was into .
