just because you don't know how to word it to generate sting doesn't make wordplay inherently bad. And idioim / phrase based punches are easier to bite wtf are you talking about lol.

the issue is you guys are overusing it....and mostly doing it poorly

blue bayou used wordplay and was awesome at it and he got heavily praised for it

more recently fagot...er allen knight has also carved out a niche for himself as the wordplay guy....

currently you guys are ALL trying to be the wordplay guy and every other line is a wordplay that typically doesn't work both ways....is an obscure word or reference point or just simply doesn't work phonetically and that's a problem.....

we aren't inherently against wordplay but this current wave of BAD wordplay is putting a negative light on it.

yeah thats fine bad wordplay is bad wordplay but some of these dudes are going in voting with a bias against wordplay right off the bat.

The other problem is people saying they don't know what a word is. Well look it up! nothing wrong with expanding your vocabulary lol.

as far as the latter portion of your comment I disagree....but I can see both sides to it.....personally I feel like if you cant get your point across coherently IMMEDIATELY upon first read than impact suffers first and foremost......if im reading the verse I want it to read smooth...quick....harsh...if I got to stop reading....google a word read the definition then come back to the verse read the bar again and piece together your attempt it just completely sucks any fluidity you may have had initially out of the verse and hurts the effectiveness of the punch......ALSO people barely want to vote at all....if they find themselves having to do EXTRA footwork just to get a vote in its even more discouraging

as a writer its YOUR job to get your point across as coherent and succinctly as possible...youre an artist.....you cant paint a picture and then tell your audience its their fault they cant see the picture that you intended to paint.......

I can kinda see what ur saying about looking up definitions. But I am painting a picture properly its kinda out of my control if people don't know the word. I've looked up words before and then re read the bar and been like "damn thats fire" so i guess I'm different than some people.
