ahem @oats hmm that's a good one. The iron fisted Duran built a reputation on the gritty aspect of the sport. A LW Pac was still developing a lot of his technique back then, and only had a few punches to his arsenal that was only amplified and considered deadly due to the blitzing hand speed. Pacquiao was a vulnerable fighter but due to his offensive capabilities and quickness he never really tasted any worrisome moments. The contrariety styles they bring are also fun to discuss. Pacquiao was good back then but he wasnt deadly. He had a really tight time frame in where he embodied a bit of everything, around 2009. I think recently he has slowed down a bit, but has taken a more fundamental stance with his original powerhouse tactics. Duran looked really beefy in his fights when he moved up and even in his 2nd against Leonard. (Leonard being more of a boxing technician than Pacquiao will ever be) He looked good against him in the first fight and stunned him and probably loooked his best then. But that was at WW. At LW, I'd take Duran comfortably, but it wouldnt be a blowout, it'd make for a very good fight, and Pacquiao if he would have time warped back in the day, would be Durans' Marquez. That's how good he was. I do think Pacquiao ages better, and has better conditioning. |
