When you ask for an extension within a reasonable time (in other words; as early as possible), same thing goes for line limit but it's not that as important as the extension thing. Asking for something like this is preferred before your opponent has dropped etc., and ofc. before the due date/time. Asking in the last minutes isn't exactly good etiquette. And it must be agreed upon.
