IT hasn't changed, but what most people think of as clever wordplay isn't all that clever at all. Topics are shallow and poorly delivered. Pop Hip Hop is all about what sells. Those rappers selling the same crap reinforces that this is what people in Hip Hop should like. The masses are sheep. It takes someone with a bit of charisma and some taste to push things in the right direction, but most people with talent and a brain are too busy making money hand over fist to give a shit about the state of Hip Hop's quality.
