You really need to contextualize those statistics.

I know you're trying to be a super lol troll, but I'll take the bait.

John Stockton was never the best player on those great Jazz teams. The reason he has all those assists is because Karl Malone was a top tier, all time power forward. Now, Stockton is no doubt a big part of why that pick and roll was so vicious. But he was the ancillary part. Not replaceable, no, but the least important of the two. How can Stockton be a top 5 player of all time if Karl Malone isn't? The logic doesn't follow.

As for steals, they have been proven to be superficial and full of noise. A great perimeter defender doesn't necessarily have to have a lot of steals, and someone who has a lot of steals can be a poor defender. That's the problem with trying to quantify defense. Are you averaging two steals a game because youre reaching and in the end being a negative on defense? Or are you a legit defender who happens to pick his spots well? I don't have enough recollection of those Stockton years to say either way, though I doubt Stockton had the lateral quickness of a truly elite level perimeter defender.

So he was the second best player of an all time great duo. A top tier point guard. But he's no Magic Johnson. Magic was better at every facet of basketball. And in terms of pure point guard skills he was better. But he was in a different system and was asked to do different things.

Chris Paul is a much better point guard, just to name a current example.

A great player you're over rating for the purposes of a lame, transparent, obvious troll. We get it.
