which isnt the same as writing raps. you aren't writing toward having a flow over music. its a completely different skillset. you gotta keep your syllables in check. you gotta compliment the music, and still be dope with "text" concepts like multi's and wordplay, metaphors etc

it takes MUCH more skill to be dope at actual rap, than at text

being good at text is like being good at shooting trash into trashcans. whats the point? you aint getting good at basketball. you're just good at shooting balled up paper into trash cans.
I do write poems and articles and short stories. Text raps have LEAGUES and BATTLES and its not about hopping on the right train of academic dicks to get recognized

text is an extension of writing, getting recognized at writing is more concrete and less subjective than getting good at rap or music

I could point to dozens of my friends at Berklee and NYU who are GIFTED yo and they're gonna amount to exactly nothing. a few penniless gigs headlining at jazz clubs. No thanks geoff

Look at all the whack youtube/ sound click rappers. many of them are genuinely talented and what recognition do they get? some views? a dozen dedicated listeners unless they really break thru, in which case they stay underground they whole career?

nah man I'd rather take a winning record and some small community recognition in something as weird and cliquey as text that I can point to, and be good at, while keeping it a hobby and not the focus of my life
