Diplomatically this is a LOT more clear cut than Afghanistan... the government has broken the Geneva convention for christ's sake.

and I can definitely see boots on the ground being debated heavily. Especially with how our presence throughout the middle east has been, its definitely not an easy sell. All we've really heard was 'military action', the only specific part was cruise missile strikes. At the same time, its clear we couldn't overthrow Assad without actual military presence. And while we're already attempting to fund, equipt and train rebels we really haven't been doing it too efficently. What I see happening is more of a coordinated effort to aid the rebels indirectly, knowing full-blown military action could end terribly.
